Mat Panthers take sixth at state

The Jackson County wrestling team finished up their season this past weekend with a sixth place finish at the individual state tournament at the Gwinnett Arena with three placers.

Izzy Carrillo-Garcia and Charles Smothers both finished their high school careers in style with state runners-up honors, while Ryan Howe wrapped up his high school career with a third place finish. [Full Story »]

The Jefferson Mat Dragons etched another page into their record book Saturday as they scored their tenth consecutive traditional state title, tying a state record with seven individual champions in the process.

Winter weather sets state tourney this week

The inclement weather seen all over the northern part of the state last week has thrown scheduling for the final two events in high school wrestling forward and, in turn, backwards as well.

With the state sectionals having to be cancelled, that means that the State Championships, scheduled for this weekend at the Gwinnett Arena, will now revert back to its previous four-day format. [Full Story »] 

GHSA Postpones Wrestling Tourneys For A Second Time

According to the Georgia High School Association website, all Sectional (Class AA-AAAAA) Wrestling Tournaments have been CANCELLED.

Class A area tournaments will have their schedules altered for next week, with details to be posted on the GHSA website.

AA-AAAAA wrestlers will be moved to the Gwinnett Arena starting on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. [Full Story »] 

State wrestling sectionals postponed

The Class AAAA state wrestling sectionals, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Loganville High School, have been postponed because of possible bad weather conditions.

Wrestlers from Winder-Barrow High School and Apalachee High School are scheduled to compete. The state sectionals will now be held Monday at LHS.

The local wrestlers qualified for state sectionals at last week's area tournament hosted by AHS.

The Jackson County Mat Panthers placed third this past weekend at the area tournament, held at Morgan County, with 10 wrestlers qualifying for the sectional tournament, to be held this weekend at Locust Grove.

In addition, Jackson County tied the school record for most Area Champions in a year at four. [Full Story »]

The Jefferson Mat Dragons went into this past weekend hoping to advance 14 wrestlers to this weekend’s state sectional tournament.

They did just that, taking their 10th consecutive region wrestling title in the process at Riverside Military Academy on Saturday.

Of the 14 wrestlers to compete, 10 Mat Dragons took top honors in their weight classes, along with one second, one third and two fourth place performances. [Full Story »]
