Brittany Litke and Mitchell Buttler capped a standout season for themselves and the Winder-Barrow High School team this weekend at Georgia Tech.

The WBHS duo competed at the Georgia High School Association state swim meet with Litke taking 12th in the 100 backstroke. The freshman qualified for the finals with a time of 1:01.22 Friday, a new school record, and then returned Saturday. The record didn’t last long as Litke ended up dropping more time while swimming a 1:00.60.

The Georgia High School Association state swim meet is changing venues this year. Swimmers, including representatives from Winder-Barrow High School, will compete at Georgia Tech Saturday. WBHS coach Jennifer Blevins said the new venue should be a positive change.

“The feel of such a high caliber facility, where many Olympians have swam, should raise the already spiking adrenaline levels and produce some fast times,” Blevins said this week as she prepared her swimmers for the event. [Full Story »] 

The Winder-Barrow High School SwimDoggs had a strong ending to the regular season by qualifying in seven events for the finals in the Metro Atlanta Championship hosted by Westminster.

The Apalachee High School swim team had one for the record book Saturday.

During a meet hosted by Habersham Central, AHS recorded the best finish team-wise in school history taking second place overall with a total of 446 points.

The Winder-Barrow High School swimmers ventured back to the University of Georgia Saturday and once again had a record-setting afternoon.

Despite missing some team members due to illness and other holiday events, the Swim Doggs managed to finish eighth among 14 teams. The diminished numbers also did not stop the team from swimming to 16 personal records and three new school records. [Full Story »] 

Despite the early nature of the season, members of the Winder-Barrow High School swimming team have already shown they have the potential to make this a special campaign.

It’s still early in the season, but the Winder-Barrow High School Swim Doggs already seem to be in top form.

Overall, WBHS won 13 of 22 events at Clayton County and saw more school records fall. Coach Jennifer Blevins was obviously pleased with her swimmers’ effort.

“Although we did not win the meet, the kids were quite impressive,” Blevins said. “If we had more depth, we could have easily won.” [Full Story »] 

Even without two of their experienced competitors, the Winder-Barrow High School swimming teams made a splash in their season debut Saturday in Gainesville.

Clara Moody began her chase for the 200 individual medley record, but quickly learned that the 100 Freestyle record was a challenge that was more within reach. [Full Story »] 

The North Georgia Swim League hosted its annual “Splash Meet” this past weekend in Habersham County with 275 swimmers competing.

The Winder YMCA Barracudas had 51 swimmers competing. Some top finishers for coach Karen Murphy’s Barracudas included Joe Allen, Dylan Barnes, Mitchell Buttler, Jenna Crow, Ian Hentenaar, Megan Lance, Quinn McDaniels, and Mitchell Spangler. Outstanding personal best times were swum by 15-18-year-old Billy Hentenaar and 13-14-year-old Quinn McDaniels.

Five additional Barracuda swimmers also earned All-Star status. They included Jenna Crow, Jacob Harrison, Jack McDaniels, Daniel Morales, and Morgan Vandergriff. [Full Story »]
