Another summer swim season ends on a high note for the Commerce Tiger Sharks. They brought home state titles in three events from Saturday’s meet in Tifton.

Commerce took 22 swimmers to south Georgia to compete in the Georgia Recreation and Park Association State meet. Of those, 20 swimmers qualified to compete in the finals, with five swimmers coming out of the pool with state champion medals.

Kate Massey won the individual medley with a 1:37.59 finish that was three seconds faster than her preliminary time. [Full Story »] 

Tiger Sharks Swimmers Ready For District

The Tiger Sharks are counting down the days until the North Georgia Swim League District meet this weekend.

The meet determines which swimmers will continue into the state competition later in the month. The top three swimmers in each event qualify for state.

This year, district is at the Frances Meadows facility in Gainesville. [Full Story »]

It was a hot day for the Commerce Tiger Sharks last Saturday at the NGSL Invitational, with temperatures in the upper 90s, and several young swimmers giving standout performances.

The invitational is particularly important to the younger swimmers, according to swimming coach Pam Minish. The Invitational is oriented more towards novice swimmers while the Pentathlon is for more advanced swimmers who can perform all the strokes.

Two standout performances from the weekend came from McKenzie McRee and Kate Massey, Minish said. Both of the swimmers made good lap times in their races. [Full Story »] 

Tiger Sharks To Host Flowery Branch In First Home Meet

The Commerce Tiger Shark swim team had another busy week in the pool as it traveled to Dacula on Thursday, June 18, for a dual meet and to Gainesville on Saturday for the North Georgia Swim League, Splash swim meet.

Next up is the first home meet of the year. The Tiger Sharks were due to host Flowery Branch today (Wednesday) before traveling back to Dacula Saturday to take part in the Dacula Invitational.

Forty-five Tiger Sharks competed at Dacula last Saturday where bad weather shortened the meet.

Swim Dragons open season at Winder

The Jefferson Park and Rec Sea Dragons Swim team traveled to Winder Saturday to take part in a Pentathlon swim meet at the Winder YMCA.

The meet was unique in that only the North Georgia Swim League’s top swimmers, 261 kids out of over 1,000, get to compete.

Swimmers must compete in all four individual stroke events, and then compete in the Individual Medley, which requires the swimmer to swim one lap of all four strokes. [Full Story »]

The Commerce Tiger Sharks are coming off a successful two-meet week to officially open both the dual and North Georgia Swim League (NGSL) competitions.

This week the swimmers will be in Dacula on Thursday to compete in a dual meet before the weekend competition at Frances Meadows in Gainesville. The June 20 meet is the NGSL Splash competition and will be a split session. [Full Story »] 

Jefferson Sea Dragons prepare for 2009 season

The Jefferson Park and Rec swim team, the Sea Dragons, are set to get their 2009 summer season kicked off next week, and according to team administrator and assistant coach Chad Klinck, it should be one of the best on record for the program.

Klinck says the team has about 95 kids this year, up from 80 that took part last year.

“(Between) 15-20 of them have started swimming year round now and that really helps the team,” he said. “Two years ago we did not have any year round swimmers. If we had some older swimmers we could probably compete for a league or GRPA state title, but until we get a high school team we will continue to lose swimmers to other sports.” [Full Story »]

Sea Dragons take several top five wins

The Jefferson Sea Dragons have finished the 2008 season with a 12th place finish.

The state swimmers include Lindsey Kelly, Haley Bartoletta, Joshua Joransen, Camille Porter, Heather Perry, Ryan Childress, Abby Richardson, Ben Goocher, Gabrielle Joransen, Andrew Bartek, and Jeremy Deremer.

The Sea Dragons traveled to the state meet in Tifton where, according to coach Chad Klinck, each of the swimmers qualified and scored points for the Jefferson team.

This season had the swimmers showing marked improvement for the young team.

Tigersharks Win Twenty Medals At State

The Commerce Tigersharks wrapped up one of their most successful seasons last weekend, as 10 swimmers brought back 20 medals from the state meet in Tifton.

"Everyone medaled in every event they swam in,” said coach Nick Moulton. “I can't remember the last time that happened."

A swimmer had to finish with one of the top eight overall times in the morning preliminaries to qualify for the afternoon finals in order to earn a medal.
