Only one driver this year had recorded more than one victory on the Georgia Asphalt Series tour. Bubba Pollard, of Senoia, had twice visited victory lane.

On Saturday night, he upped that number to three with a victory at Peach State Speedway.

It wasn’t an easy one to win, either. Piloting the number 42 normally driven by Tony Clark, Pollard first had to chase down Commerce racer Taylor Satterfield.

Then he had to duel longtime GAS series rival Paul Kelley, of Pendergrass, before pulling away for the win. [Full Story »] 

After reading several of the reports and opinions about Saturday’s Nationwide series race in Montreal, which was run as a steady rain fell, one supposed “fact” was stated several times.

The offending item was the notion that Saturday’s event was the first ever NASCAR race run in the rain.

Several area racers found their way into victory lane at area racetracks over the weekend.

Commerce racer Ty Lowe added some hardware to his trophy shelf by winning the Crate Late Model division at Lavonia Speedway Friday night. It was his second win on area dirt tracks in as many weeks.

Paul Kelley of Pendergrass and Braselton’s Shane Sawyer put on a late-race duel at Lanier National Speedway Saturday, swapping the lead three times in the last five laps before Kelley took the lead for good. Sawyer made a late charge, but Kelley was able to just stay ahead at the finish line for the win in the 100-lap Pro Late model event. [Full Story »] 

There’s no way to sugar coat it. Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was painful to watch.

That was because tire issues on Sunday caused drivers to tip toe around the storied 2.5 mile track, and caused NASCAR to throw several competition caution flags to allow teams to change the quickly worn out tires for new.

It’s been an interesting week, as many of the NASCAR pundits are already calling Kyle Busch the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion.

True, that after picking up win number seven at Chicagoland Speedway, young Mr. Busch is very much a favorable candidate for the title once the tour reaches Homestead in November.

It was an eventful night for racers at Peach State Speedway Thursday, as the track hosted the Toyota Tundra Independence 125 for the Georgia Asphalt Series, the longest event for the tour this year.

A crowd estimated to be in excess of 2,500 watched as Ryan Crane from Panama City, FL, in only his second race at Peach State, ran away from the field for the victory.

It was Crane’s first GAS series race to boot.

“It’s not many times you get a car that runs like that,” Crane said. “We worked real hard on it, and got it where it would hold out for a long race. Man, was it fun!” [Full Story »] 

Track officials have confirmed that Peach State Speedway, the half-mile raceway outside of Jefferson, is up for sale.
An advertisement appeared last week in the Athens Banner-Herald listing the track and the 53 acres it sits on for $2.5 million.

Track promoter Vince Whitmire says, however, everything is business as usual.
