The Banks County High School fast-pitch softball team fell one-game short of advancing to the state sectionals this fall.

While narrowly missing that goal was a disappointing, the Lady Leopards did manage to record 13 wins in 2008 and will lose just two seniors (Samm Kennedy and Kathy Davidson) to graduation this spring.

Hayley Baird was the team’s top batter with a .398 average with 35 hits and 19 runs scored. Madison Franklin, a freshman on this year’s team, finished with an impressive .318 batting average including 28 hits with six doubles, nine RBI and 18 runs scored. [ Full Story » ] 

Lady Dragons end season at Sectionals

The Jefferson Lady Dragons softball season came to a close in Dalton this weekend, after losing to Lovett 2-1 on Saturday in AA Sectional tournament play at Heritage Point Park.

Jefferson started out with a come from behind victory over Adairsville late Friday afternoon, winning 3-2 in eight innings.

Kara Perry recorded the win, striking out 11 and giving up five hits in eight innings pitched. [ Full Story » ] 

Lady Panthers place fifth at State

The Jackson County Lady Panther slow pitch softball team wrapped up their season with a fifth place finish in state competition this past Saturday.

The Lady Panthers opened up tournament play against McEachern, losing 9-5 after trailing by only one run in the sixth.

Coach Clarke Rainwater said his team played very well against a team that had defeated the Lady Panthers 19-2 just a month ago.

The Lady Tigers ended their 2008 season at the Class A North Sectionals in Dalton with a 1-0 loss to Hebron Christian.

Commerce got six hits and played well according to Coach Pam Canup.

“We played very, very well,” Canup said. “In the bottom of the seventh [Hebron] had back-to-back hits and scored.” [ Full Story » ]

he Jackson County Lady Panthers fast pitch softball team wrapped their season up last week with play in the Region 8-AAA tournament.

Unfortunately, the season ended with a pair of losses in tournament play last Tuesday.

When the Region 8-AA tournament was over for the Banks County High School softball team, the Lady Leopards were one game shy of state play.

To be more exact, BCHS was two runs away.

The Lady Leopards fell to Dawson County 3-1 in a game they needed to win to guarantee themselves a spot at the next level. BCHS entered the contest off a 18-1 thrashing of Oglethorpe County, but could not manage to get past the Lady Tigers. [ Full Story » ]
