Ron Wilson, Larry Jordan, Eric Akins and Mike Wilson comprised the winning team in the Jackson County EMS Employee Benevolence Group’s recent golf tournament.

The event raised more than $5,000.

Boys and girls, ages 7-18, from Metro Atlanta and North Georgia participated in three Atlanta Junior Golf events during the past two weeks. On July 9, players competed at Reunion Golf Club in Hoschton and on July 14 at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville. On July 16, players traveled to Commerce to compete at the Double Oaks Golf Course. Winners were crowned in various age and skill divisions. [ Full Story » ] 

Hurricane Shoals’ mini-golf course under construction

A certain image comes to mind whenever you hear the term mini-golf. Perhaps images of the typical putt-putt courses festooned with campy windmills and faux mountains.

Jackson County Parks and Rec department is looking to swap that image for one with a more historic theme.

The 18-hole “Spirit of the River” mini-golf course that is being installed at Hurricane Shoals Park is the brainchild of Pat Bell. Jackson County Parks and Recreation director, Ricky Sanders said that the concept was originated by Bell to tell the story of the area. The overall design of each hole serves as a timeline for the area, with each hole telling a story about the area and Jackson County. [ Full Story » ]
