SOCCER: Lady Doggs fall at state

The curtain fell on the 2011 season for the Winder-Barrow High School Lady Bulldoggs Tuesday, but not before much was accomplished on the soccer field.

WBHS advanced to the state tournament once again this spring. The Lady Doggs fell 2-1 to Lakeside in a match that could have easily gone either way.

“It was tough on us because they were very physical,” WBHS coach Ben Arms said after the match. “That’s not our style of play. We concentrate on playing soccer.”

The Lady Doggs were without standout player Clara Tapplin, who is recovering from ligament damage in her left knee. [Full Story »]

For coach Ben Arms and the Winder-Barrow High School Lady Bulldogg soccer team, this is familiar territory.

Despite some key losses from last year’s team, WBHS is back on the big stage of high school soccer, having qualified for the upcoming Class AAAA state playoffs, scheduled to begin next week. [Full Story »]

Warmer weather can’t get here soon enough for the Banks County soccer teams, who returned to the field last week despite chilly winds. The Leopards and Lady Leopards faced East Jackson Tuesday followed by Oglethorpe County Thursday.

The boys are off to decent start, 1-1 after falling to the Eagles 4-1 on the road then adding a win at home over the Patriots. Francisco Padron and Koewy Heu started Banks County off in the first period with a goal each.

Leading 2-0 at the break, the Leopards held off the Patriots over the next 45 minutes adding another goal to match Oglethorpe’s lone goal to secure the 3-1 victory. [Full Story »]

After compiling a 14-2-1 record during the regular season, one might think the opening-round playoff matchup for the Winder-Barrow High School girls soccer team might be a little easier than what it has been dealt.

Winder-Barrow High School girls soccer coach Ben Arms is quick to sum up the reason for his team’s success to this point in the 2010 season.

The Winder-Barrow High School varsity girls soccer team will begin the region portion of its schedule Friday against Heritage at home.

Coach Ben Arms’ squad has played well during the early portion of the season. The Lady Doggs tied Chestatee 1-1 Saturday with Rebekah Autry scoring the lone goal for WBHS. [Full Story »]
