The first stage of the David Wagner era at Winder-Barrow High School was witnessed Friday night at W. Clair Harris Stadium.

The Bulldoggs hosted Dacula in a preseason scrimmage falling 27-21 to the visiting Class AAAAA Falcons. The varsity squads played the first three quarters while the junior varsity closed things out in the fourth quarter. [Full Story »] 

AHS coach concerned with heat, prep time

Shane Davis holds plenty of titles which are associated with his duties of head football coach at Apalachee High School.

His most recent title, however, seems to be that of weatherman as the veteran Wildcat coach is concerned over the fact the extreme heat is limiting his team’s ability to work, especially in full gear. AHS, which opens the season Aug. 27 against Habersham Central, ushered in official preseason practice last week but the heat played a factor. [Full Story »]

Most high school football coaches believe there is never enough preparation time. Winder-Barrow High School coach David Wagner is one of those.

Yet Wagner, like his fellow coaches, know at some point you have to take the field and see where you stand. The Bulldoggs will get a preseason taste of where they are this Friday when they host Dacula for a scrimmage at 7:30 p.m. at W. Clair Harris Stadium. [Full Story »]

This is unfamiliar turf for Apalachee High School football coach Shane Davis.

With so many starters graduating from last fall’s Region 8-AAAA championship team, Davis and the Wildcats are truly starting from scratch for 2010. That preparation has moved to the practice field in recent days with spring practice which will culminate later this week with a controlled scrimmage. [Full Story »]

The Winder-Barrow High School football team will host a spring scrimmage Tuesday at 7 p.m. at W. Clair Harris Stadium.

Coach David Wagner said the event will last approximately 90 minutes. Admission will be $3 and concessions and booster club information and materials will be available. [Full Story »]

Shane Davis places a high level of importance on his coaching staff being a family.

That’s why the Apalachee High School football coach doesn’t hire new coaches often or without much thought and process. After defensive coordinator David Wagner left to become the new head coach at Winder-Barrow High School, Davis took his time in retooling his coaching staff for the 2010 season. With spring practice approaching next month, the Wildcat coach has just now put the finishing touches on what will be his new group of assistants. [Full Story »]
