Even with his team’s 35-7 win Friday night, coach Shane Davis sees plenty to work on for his Apalachee High School Wildcats before they return to the field Sept. 10.

“Hopefully, we can get in a little better shape,” Davis said Sunday night. “We are going to spend a lot of time running this week. Plus, Flowery Branch does so much on offense that we are going to need all the time we can get to prepare for them.” [Full Story »] 

Game week dawned on Winder-Barrow High School Monday morning.

Specific preparation for Friday’s 2010 season opener arrived Sunday for the Bulldogg coaches as they met to discuss the game plan and to begin the final push for the season. For new head coach David Wagner, there is a sense of worry, not so much about the opponent his team will face at 7:30 p.m. Friday but has he covered everything that needs covering in order to fully prepare his team. The Apalachee High School offense looked to be in mid-season form Friday night.

Coach Shane Davis saw his Wildcats compile approximately 240 yards on the ground in one half in a 16-7 shortened win against the host Tigers. Alex Camp led the way with 90 yards and a touchdown.

Lightning moved in the area just before halftime and after attempting to wait the weather out, officials decided to call it a night. [Full Story »] 

It was less than five minutes after his team’s preseason scrimmage against Dacula when first-year Winder-Barrow High School coach David Wagner made an assessment which summed up the evening aptly.

“It was a good first step,” Wagner said. “Sometimes the first step is the hardest. We did take that first step tonight, however.”

The Bulldoggs, despite somewhat of a shaky start, settled in against Class AAAAA Dacula Friday at W. Clair Harris Stadium. When all was said and done, the visiting Falcons had recorded a 27-21 victory. However, coaches will quickly tell you preseason scrimmages are about so much more than what the scoreboard says after the final buzzer.

The first stage of the David Wagner era at Winder-Barrow High School was witnessed Friday night at W. Clair Harris Stadium.

The Bulldoggs hosted Dacula in a preseason scrimmage falling 27-21 to the visiting Class AAAAA Falcons. The varsity squads played the first three quarters while the junior varsity closed things out in the fourth quarter. [Full Story »]
