There have been plenty of surprises in the 2012 college football season, none bigger than the rise of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame to the top of the BCS standings with a perfect 12-0 season.

Notre Dame came into this season unranked and on nobody’s radar to compete for a national title. But now everything has changed, they completed their perfect season this past week when they defeated their rivals of USC in the Trojans’ house.

The Fighting Irish have many good players on their team; in fact, they have many great players on their team. But no player is better, more valuable, and more of a leader than Notre Dame’s star senior linebacker Manti Te’o. [Full Story »] 

When Texas A&M and Missouri joined the SEC this past offseason everyone laughed and said that they would have a rough time playing in the best conference in college football.

Missouri hasn’t done that well, but Texas A&M has shown the SEC that they are no pushovers and can most certainly play in the division.

And now this week the Aggies are showing just how dumb the BCS system is and how much better a playoff system would be for college football. [Full Story »] 

For the last two weeks Oregon has been jumped twice in the BCS rankings, first by Florida two weeks ago and now by Kansas State this week, in two weeks they have gone from the number 2 ranked team to the number 4 ranked team in the country.

But here is the kicker, all this happened while Oregon has still yet to lose a game. In fact, in these two weeks they beat Washington 52-21 and Arizona State 43-21.
Alabama still holds the number one spot and will undoubtedly stay there until they drop a game.

But now the Ducks are looking up as they have seemingly been punished for winning games and staying undefeated. This is tough. Admittedly, I am not a big fan of Florida and Kansas State being able to jump a team in the rankings that is still undefeated and is still dominating their opponents. [Full Story »] 

It is usually clear who the front runners for the Heisman trophy are in just the first few weeks of the season.

By the time the presentation rolls around, you can look back to the beginning of the season and see that the winner’s name was among those who were categorized as the “front runner.”

Commonly, the winner is the best player on the best team in the country that is usually playing in the National Title game. But every now and then, the trophy winner won’t actually be on the best team in the country. [Full Story »] 

With the fall of the No. 2-ranked USC Trojans to Stanford this week comes yet another question of who will be the top non-SEC contender challenging for the national title.

With the Trojans 21-14 loss to Stanford the LSU Tigers moved up to the number 2 spot in the country. Making Alabama and LSU number 1 and number 2 in the country yet again.

Following those two is Oregon at number 3 and Florida State at number 4, two teams that could possibly challenge LSU or Alabama for a title. Both the Ducks and the Seminoles have loads of talent and could both make the claim as the most talented team in the country. [Full Story »] 

Labor Day weekend just passed, which means that a new season of college football is finally here.

And with every new season comes new expectations. Heisman hopefuls do their best to make a great first impression in their opening games. National title contenders look to have stellar performances to stay at the top of the rankings. And the defending champions look to reclaim their prize from the season before.

In this case, the defending national champions are the Crimson Tide of Alabama who certainly made a great first impression on their championship defending season. [Full Story »]
