The Jackson County Varsity cheerleaders placed third in Region competition Saturday and will continue to the state cheerleading competition this Friday.

The Jackson County cheerleader captain, and member of the All State Cheerleading Squad will be recognized Saturday at the second session of the State finals.

The Cheerleader of the Year and the runner-up will also be announced.

On September 27, the Jefferson High School cheerleaders competed at Mill Creek.

The squad competed against several other strong AA teams and came in first place with a season high score of 223.

Varsity competition squad members include Katie Mahany, Iniki Allen, Emily Dale, Savannah Wilson, Jennifer Shumake, Cara Sanders, Taylor Bornhorn, Rachel Skinner, Missy Parks, back row, Mallory Dell, Megan Davis, Hanna Chapman, Ashleigh Ferguson, Danielle Tackett, Kelsey Miller, Brittany Girardot.

The squad is coached by Robin O’Neal, Kayla Stephenson, Elaine Murphy and Lee Chambers.

Cheer Tigers Win At Oconee

The Commerce High School Competitive Cheer Tigers won first place at Saturday’s competition at Oconee.

Commerce took the win by 40 points over their nearest competitors.

The other teams in the division were Georgia Military, Social Circle, and Washington Wilkes.

For the second time this season, Grayson edged out Mill Creek to take first place in a competition cheerleading event. After beating Mill Creek on September 6 at Collins Hill, Grayson once again held on to win this past weekend in Dawson County. [ Full Story » ]

Cheerleaders to compete for title

Jackson County Comprehensive High School seniors Kaitlin Hill and Elizabeth Hunt have been selected as top 40 finalists for the Georgia Cheerleader of the Year/All-State Squad.

They will perform an individual routine and interview at Columbus State University on August 9 to compete for the title of Georgia Cheerleader of the Year and to be a member of the All-State Squad. Only 16 cheerleaders from the state are selected for the state squad.

Cheerleading coach Derelle McMenomy said she wishes both girls luck and is proud of their grades, community service, and cheering, all of which are part of the selection criteria for the All-State squad.
