Victories against Monroe Area and Southwest Atlanta Christian have pushed the Winder-Barrow High School boys basketball team to 7-1 this season but coach David Sokol still sees room for improvement in some areas.

In Saturday’s 56-49 victory against Southwest Atlanta, the Bulldoggs jumped out to a fast 15-2 start before holding on in a contest which became close at the end.

Going into this week’s action, the Winder-Barrow High School boys basketball team had posted three wins in its first three outings.

Led by first-year coach David Sokol, the Bulldoggs have posted wins against Dunwoody, Parkview and Alpharetta. Each was part of the Parkview Classic in Lilburn.

Alonzo Nelson is currently the team’s leading scorer and rebounder and also is pacing WBHS in blocks. Teammate Trent Demeritte is playing well in “all areas,” Sokol said, including distributing the basketball, shooting and playing sound defense.

Winder-Barrow High School has selected David Sokol as its new varsity boys basketball coach.

Sokol was officially approved by the Barrow County Board of Education Tuesday night. He was the head coach of the Class AAAAA War Eagles this past season. South Forsyth competes in Region 7-AAAAA.
