The strong start to the season continues for the Jackson County Panthers, as they go 7-0 overall after picking up four victories last week, including one over East Jackson.

Up next for the Panthers is a Thursday home stand that is also a rematch over their most recent victims, the Spartans of West Hall.

Wildcats hope to benefit from early wins

As Mike Cavey continues to build the Apalachee High School baseball program, he knows wins are important for a number of reasons.

First and foremost is confidence and with three consecutive victories, the Diamond Wildcats may have accomplished something for the first time in program history.

“I’m not sure we’ve ever won three in a row,” Cavey said earlier this week. “Getting wins means confidence and that’s what our program needs.” [Full Story »]

Coach Brian Smith’s Winder-Barrow High School Diamond Doggs completed their non-region schedule playing about as well as possible.

The veteran baseball coach knows, however, that Region 8-AAAA can make a team who is having success suddenly find itself scrambling.

“As happy as we are at how we have started, we want to peak and finish as hot as we can be going into the playoffs,” Smith said Monday. “We want to be playing together as a team as the season progresses.” [Full Story »]

The Jefferson Dragons split their opening two games of the 2010 season, losing their opener to Oconee County before recording a victory on the road over Madison County.

Up next is a home stand for Jefferson, as they will host the Red Raiders of Madison County on Thursday.

The Winder-Barrow High School baseball team continued to be offensive Monday afternoon.

Coach Brian Smith’s Diamond Doggs were certainly offensive to visiting Eastside as they plated 18 runs on their way to a dominating 18-3 win which was mercifully called off after four innings. It was a true display of offense for WBHS, who moved to 4-0 with the win.

Madison County High School’s all-time hit leader has revived his baseball career in the Lone Star State.
Calloway, who collected 123 hits for the Raiders from 2001-2004, is playing independent league baseball for the San Angelo Colts, a member of United League Baseball.
