Coaches tend to downplay rival games but when it comes to the Winder-Barrow High School/Apalachee contest, the coaches involved know there really is no need to try.

George Thompson Memorial features tough competition

A tournament which featured “tough competition” was a benefit for the Winder-Barrow High School wrestling team.

That was the assesment of Bulldogg coach Chad Horne after he looked back on the George Thompson Memorial event held at WBHS Satuday. Eight teams competed in the event including defending Class AAA champion Eastside which emerged as the tournament champion Saturday with 282 points. [Full Story »]

The Winder-Barrow High School wrestling team is set will host the George Thompson Memorial tournament Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

Nine area schools will compete in the event, named for Thompson, a former standout wrestler for the Matt Bulldoggs.

Lady Doggs record sixth win

The Winder-Barrow High School Lady Bulldoggs put win No. 6 in the record book last Friday with a 44-33 victory against Flowery Branch at home.

Mimi Hill paced the WBHS with 16 points as the Lady Bulldoggs benefited from a strong third quarter.

The season is a long way from being over, but Winder-Barrow High School boys basketball coach Eli Connell will certainly take a 6-1 start.

“I’m not someone who looks too far ahead,” Connell said Sunday night after he finished breaking down the win from Friday night against Monroe Area. “In the preseason, I didn’t look at our schedule and think we could be 4-1 or 5-1. When the break gets here we will look at the region standings and see where we are.”

It was a record-setting day for the Winder-Barrow High School swim teams.

During Saturday’s short trip to the Ramsey Center at the University of Georgia, several WBHS Bulldoggs and Lady Bulldoggs established personal bests. [Full Story »]

Standout players from the Winder-Barrow High School football team were recognized for their contributions during the 2008 season last week during the program’s annual awards banquet.

Reggie Riley earned the award for top defensive back while Hogan Anderson and Jody Royal took honors for their play at linebacker. Jonah Huggins was named the team’s top defensive line. [Full Story »]

Connell's team takes Tabo Tipoff title

A dominating performance by the Winder-Barrow High School boys basketball team Saturday helped cap a successful run through the Tabo Tipoff Tournament.

The Bulldoggs defeated Collins Hill 75-44 to capture first place in the tournament hosted by Jefferson High School and emerged with a perfect 3-0 record in tournament play which stretched over several days. [Full Story »]
