Football players and coaches at Winder-Barrow and Apalachee High School have been working for the start of the 2009 season for months now.

For Cook Holliday, it’s always been about the student-athletes he has been able to work with.

During the recent Georgia High School Association boys state track meet in Jefferson, Holliday once again stressed that point.

Second-year Winder-Barrow High School football coach Ben Corley is dealing with a welcome problem this spring.

While Brian Smith is pleased with his team’s start in the Region 8-AAAA battles this season, the Winder-Barrow High School team also knows there is still plenty of race left to be run.

The Diamond Doggs are 5-0 in region play and enjoyed an off date Monday. The schedule resumes today (Wednesday) with a trip to Heritage and a home contest Friday against Salem. A huge test arrives Monday when WBHS travels to defending state champion Loganville. [Full Story »] 

Friday night’s double overtime win against Clarke Central on the road by Winder-Barrow High School allowed those in attendance to get their money’s worth.

The win improved coach Eli Connell’s team to 13-5 overall and 3-1 in subregion play. WBHS, which was set to play Habersham Central Tuesday night, has had plenty of nerve-wrecking games this season. [Full Story »] 

The Winder-Barrow High School varsity basketball teams will host Habersham Central Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m.

The Winder-Barrow High School Bulldoggs seemed to be on cruise control Tuesday night against visiting Madison County,
however, the Red Raiders suddenly got hot from 3-point range and cut what had been at one point a 19-point deficit at the end of the third quarter down to five points with 3:42 left in the contest.

The Bulldoggs would hold on, however, and put a 69-57 win in the record book to the relief of coach Eli Connell.
