Madison County produced enough big plays to hold off the Winder-Barrow High School football team in a 22-16 contest last Friday at W. Clair Harris Stadium.

The Bulldoggs outgained the Red Raiders overall, but a kickoff return for a touchdown as well as a 55-yard pass play help propel Madison County to its first win of 2010 while WBHS has to continue looking to break into the win column. [Full Story »]

Work continues this week for the Winder-Barrow and Apalachee High School football teams.

The AHS Wildcats held a morning workout Monday as the final week of summer drills arrived. Coach David Wagner and the WBHS Bulldoggs will host practice sessions later this week as they prepare to begin the new school year Monday and move to regular after-school practices. [Full Story »] 

Spring drills are now complete and the anticipation to the 2010 football season in Barrow County is less than three months away.

For Apalachee High School coach Shane Davis and Winder-Barrow High School coach David Wagner, the coming weeks will also be important as fall practice approaches. For local football coaches David Wagner and Shane Davis, the spring practice window was not a time to waste.

Wagner had to get to work immediately at Winder-Barrow High School as he begins to install new offensive and defensive schemes and to try and build a winning tradition for a program which has struggled in the past couple of decades. Special teams work will be covered in the fall. [Full Story »] 

Make no mistake Apalachee High School football coach Shane Davis wishes his trusted assistant David Wagner well in his new venture as head coach of cross county rival Winder-Barrow High School.

Yet, on the same hand, it won’t be the same with him gone, Davis said.

“I’m not going to sit here and say it’s a lot of fun right now,” the Wildcat head coach said earlier this week. “I have to look at it personally and professionally. Of course, it’s a good thing for Wag. It’s hard to be upset when you see someone from your program going on to be a head coach.” [Full Story »]
