With a new season drawing closer with each passing day, the Winder-Barrow High School football team seems to be on the right track for turning its past misfortunes around.

Heath Webb and his coaches and players recently attended a camp in Carrollton and had the chance to compete against some of the top programs in the state including Camden County, Peachtree Ridge and North Gwinnett.

“We had the chance to line up against top of the line programs and see where we were as a program,” Webb said.
While the camps were not conducted in full pads, players were able to practice in shoulder pads and helmets and there was plenty of contact made. [Full Story »] 

High school football, as much as any sport at that level, runs in cycles.

The majority of programs have their share of ups and downs. Successful stretches are often followed by some down seasons.

Winder-Barrow High School football coach Heath Webb has announced the addition of two assistants to his initial Bulldogg coaching staff.

Webb said Chris Davis and Paul Hoch have been officially approved by the Barrow County Board of Education and are now working the WBHS program. Davis spent the last two years as the head coach at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, while Hoch, who has head coaching experiencing in Florida, will add knowledge to the defensive side of the football.

Davis will coach the inside wide receivers as well as being the team’s assistant head coach and strength coordinator.
“Coach Davis will have a lot on his plate for us,” Webb said. “He was also a head coach in South Florida before going to Cedar Shoals. It is tremendous for us to be able to bring his experience in. He will have a great influence on our kids. He is a great person to work with.” [Full Story »] 

Spring practice is in the history book for the Winder-Barrow High School football team, but players and coaches are about to be full steam ahead in preparation for the 2014 season, now approximately three months away.

WBHS played its spring game May 9 and despite rain which moved in just as the scrimmage was starting, new coach Heath Webb said he was pleased by what the team accomplished.

‘I was proud of the kids,” the coach said. “I thought we executed pretty well at times. especially since we have a new offense and defense. Football is football, but when you are doing so many new things you worry if the kids can grasp it and execute it. With only nine days of practice they did well. Enthusiasm is the buzzword right now for Winder-Barrow High School football.

The Bulldoggs finished their first week of spring practice Friday and new head coach Heath Webb said he came away with a “really good impression.”

“It’s not coach speak by any means,” Webb said. “I am more encouraged now than during our offseason workouts. The kids are embracing the change. The enthusiasm and energy have been awesome. Our coaching staff is doing a great job of raising the bar.” [Full Story »] 

The Heath Webb era is set to begin at Winder-Barrow High School.

The Bulldoggs began official spring practice Monday and will continue through May 9 when the program will host a spring scrimmage at W. Clair Harris Stadium.

New head coach Heath Webb said Sunday afternoon that the players will be divided into two teams during the first week with everyone getting a chance to compete on both sides of the football. [Full Story »] 

It’s early on a rainy Monday morning at Winder-Barrow High School and Heath Webb is already at work.

When you are the new head football coach of a program which has not enjoyed success in some time, there aren’t many days off. Webb knows this and embraces it.

There is a definite buzz around the Winder-Barrow High School football program.

It’s not unusual for there to be a level of excitement when a new coach is hired. There is enthusiasm as fans are eager to see how the new head coach will do.
