In theory, the Winder-Barrow High School football team didn’t have much to play for last Friday night other than pride.
The Bulldoggs are out of the playoff picture and were preparing for a team which will be in the state playoffs this fall. Yes, in theory, the team didn’t have much to play for.
However, someone forgot to tell this group of players who fought the entire game and had a legitimate chance to defeat the visiting Clarke Central High School Gladiators. It was a gutsy effort and one that had to impress anyone who was in attendance.
The fact that the WBHS team is continuing to battle at this juncture in the season is a positive sign for both the players and the coaching staff. Clearly, no one has given up. The towel has not been tossed in from the WBHS corner.
Games of this nature — where one team has already made the playoffs and where one is playing out the remainder of the schedule — have a tendency to be 40-0 or worse.
