There were plenty of question marks going into the 2011 volleyball season for the Apalachee High School Lady Wildcats.
When all was said and done, AHS had finished second at the Region 8-AAAA tournament and returned to state for the second year in a row. For coach Joey Alfonso, it was simply another step down the road of building a successful program.
AHS fell in the opening round of state last week to Starr’s Mill 25-13, 25-19, 25-19, a victim of a bad draw as much as anything. Still, Alfonso knows the loss does not take away from what his team was able to accomplish in what was considered a rebuilding one in many ways.
