If one looked inside the heart and soul of Kevin Morris, one would likely find a few basketballs, perhaps a clipboard and the pounding of a coach who knows there are more important parts to his profession than drawing up a play to run coming out of a timeout.

It’s all about being a coach and the veteran Apalachee High School boys basketball mentor has seen a great deal in his time with the Wildcats. Two Final Four appearances, some thrilling wins, some disappointing losses and some of life’s toughest lessons are part of what Morris deals with on a daily basis.

Morris has provided stability at AHS and through the natural ups and down, has become a constant in front of the Wildcat bench. An emotional leader to say the least, the term “leader” describes Morris, but in some ways only scratches the surface. [Full Story »] 

When one watches Michael Parks in action, don’t expect to see a version of Bobby Knight.

Parks will not be seen yelling on the bench in front of his Apalachee High School Lady Wildcats. Parks certainly will not be throwing a chair. After each game, wether a win or loss, Parks remains calm and composed, in control. The coach who undertook a major building process a few seasons ago is perhaps beginning to see some return on the dividends he has put in.

The Lady Wildcats have already set a new school record for number of wins in a season (six). The AHS girls have given Loganville a battle in two games this season and enter this Friday’s matchup with region and county rival Winder-Barrow with a sense of confidence like the program has not experienced.
