Commerce High School’s boys’ basketball team is back in action.

After having some time off since competing in the Jackson County Christmas Tournament, the Tigers returned to the court on Tuesday night against Social Circle.

Results from Tuesday’s game were unavailable at press time.

Friday, Commerce hosts Lakeview Academy in the second region game of the week.

Lakeview has won the last eight contests between the two schools. Coach Chad Bridges said the Tigers will have to refocus after Tuesday’s game and prepare mentally for Lakeview. Bridges said it would be nice to get a streak going as the team gets into region competition.

“The biggest thing for us against Lakeview is to play with confidence and handle their pressure,” said Bridges.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

Commerce’s Mat Tigers are sitting on two wins as the team takes a break for the holidays.

After picking up the championship at the Madison County duals on Saturday, the Mat Tigers competed in the Social Circle Redskin Duals on Tuesday. Results from Social Circle were unavailable at press time.

Commerce will return to the mat for the Amicalola Classic at Dawson County Jan. 2, and Jan. 3. The match starts at 5 p.m on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. [ Full Story » ] 

The Commerce High School boys have a few days to recoup after Saturday’s 54-42 defeat by Apalachee.

The Tigers remain undefeated in region play and 2-4 overall as the team takes a short break for the holidays.
Commerce will jump back into the fray next Monday and Tuesday at the Jackson County Jingle Jam Tournament. The Tigers’ first opponent in the tournament is Providence Christian on Dec. 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Saturday night started out well for the Tigers against Apalachee. Coach Chad Bridges said the boys did a good job defensively but gave up too many rebounds.
“We played extremely well for spurts but we didn’t put a complete game together,” said Bridges.

The Commerce High School Tigers are 2-0 in region play.

After picking up an 80-75 win over Hebron Christian Academy last Saturday, the team is in good shape before the Christmas break.

Coming up this week, the Tigers will host Apalachee on Saturday before having next week off. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. following the Lady Tigers’ game. [ Full Story » ] 

The Commerce High School wrestling team kicked off its season at the Panther Invitational last weekend.

Commerce came away from the competition with fifth place finish, three wrestlers in the finals and a grappler awarded Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Coach Kendall Love said that the Panther Invitational was a brutal way to start the season for the Tigers, but said the squad did well. [ Full Story » ] 

Commerce’s basketball teams will open their season Saturday.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers face Apalachee on the road; the first game starts at 6 p.m. with the Lady Tigers taking on the Lady Wildcats, with the boys’ game to follow. [ Full Story » ] 

Commerce’s wrestling team has reason for optimism.

The Tigers have a number of returning starters and state tournament placers and qualifiers after last season’s fourth-place finish at the state tournament and a 21-3 dual record.

Coach Kendall Love said the team should be competitive as the grapplers get into their weight classes. [ Full Story » ] 

“We played good enough to win,” said Tiger coach Steve Savage. “Sometimes good enough to win is good enough.”

Friday night, Commerce secured a .500 regular season after a 22-12 victory over Prince Avenue Christian.

After a 33-7 loss last Friday, Commerce only has three games left to secure a playoff spot.

This Friday, Commerce heads to Gainesville looking to pick up a second region win over the Lakeview Academy Lions. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Jock Hornor Field.

Lakeview is still in the infancy of its football program, 1-4 overall; 0-3 region. Stacked against a perennial powerhouse like Commerce, the numbers are in the Tigers’ favor. Commerce has amassed 122 points, averaging 17.4 per game, compared to Lakeview’s 58 points and 11.6 average. The Tigers have allowed 192 points in seven games while Lakeview has allowed 137 points in five games a 27.4-point average apiece.
