For Shane Davis, it hasn’t taken long for the historic significance of the 2009 season to sink in.

In fact, even as the season was progressing, Davis knew what his Apalachee High School team was going through was in fact special.

“Going undefeated while playing a straight region schedule says a lot about our kids,” Davis said. “It says a lot about their heart and character. To win two playoff games in the manner we did, also shows what type of team we had this season.” [Full Story »] 

Just as they dominated region competition on the field this fall, the Apalachee High School football team has dominated the 2009 All-Region squad for 8-AAAA.

Senior running back Jon Lee shared Offensive Player of the Year honors while Jeff Haney was named the region’s Defensive Player of the Year.

While the first two games of the state playoffs have been against worthy opponents, the Apalachee High School coaches and players know the challenge will likely rise to another level this Friday.

The Wildcats are hosting Griffin in a quarterfinal matchup of two 12-0 teams. The Bears were ranked No. 1 in the state in the final regular season poll and have been predicted by some to win it all.

“They are definitely good,” Davis said. “They are worthy of their ranking. They have all the tools and look the part of a state championship contender. They have good size and unbelievable speed at the skill positions.” [Full Story »] 

Perhaps last Friday’s game between Apalachee High School and Starr’s Mill could be best summed up in two words: playoff football.

The two teams played one that will not likely be soon forgotten as it took two overtime periods to decide a winner. When it was finally over, the AHS Wildcats had emerged with the hardest of hard-fought victories at 27-24 and all associated with the home team were no doubt thankful they would be moving on to play another week.

However, when it comes to the playoffs that is simply the name of the game.

Shane Davis, like many in the high school coaching profession, has worked at his share of places.

However, Davis may have very well found a place to call home for a long time in Winder at Apalachee High School.

Davis, has guided the Wildcats to a perfect 10-0 regular season, the first region title in school history and has helped the program earn the right to host state playoff games. All-in-all, it has been a remarkable ride for a coach who is now in his fifth season at AHS. [Full Story »] 

The way things played out last Friday at R. Harold Harrison Stadium, it looked as if the Apalachee High School Wildcats were the team battling for the postseason.

Visiting Salem needed a victory to clinch a playoff spot while AHS had already wrapped up the Region 8-AAAA title and stood at 9-0 overall. However, the host Wildcats played one of their better games of the season on their way to a 37-14 win.

Some would say Apalachee High School football coach Shane Davis has it pretty good.

Davis and his Wildcats were undefeated going into last Friday’s road game against Madison County. Entering the contest at 8-0, the Wildcats were looking to build some momentum after two close one-point victories.

Davis and the AHS team got what they wanted with a 31-14 victory against the Red Raiders. The Wildcats now stand at 9-0 overall and inched up to No. 7 in the most recent Georgia High School Daily AAAA Top 10 poll.

The region championship had been secured and it was time for Apalachee High School head football coach Shane Davis to get a bath.

This bath consisted of the water in one of the coolers from the Wildcat sideline. Davis, enjoying the moment as much as anyone, didn’t resist or try to run away. The fifth-year AHS coach was drenched and he loved every second of it.
Such is the case when you’ve just won the first-ever football region title in school history and maintained your perfect undefeated season.
