Sea Dragons place seventh at state

It was a strong showing in state competition for the Jefferson Sea Dragons, as the combined boys and girls teams placed seventh out of 28 teams to compete in Tifton.

Out of 33 swimmers to go to state, 13 of 15 relay teams made the medal stand, and 13 out of 14 individuals swimmers made the stand.

Haley Bartoletta was the lone individual state titlist for Jefferson, as she took first in the Girls 7-8 25 Breaststroke. She also placed second in the girls’ 7-5 25 Butterfly. [Full Story »] 

Sea Dragons take third at league championships

The Jefferson Sea Dragons competed in the North Georgia Swim League Championships last Friday and Saturday, coming home with a third place finish overall.

The result came despite not having a single swimmer in two out of 12 age groups, including 15-18 girls and 15-18 boys, and only having one swimmer in the 13-14 boys age group.

“Four years ago in our first year we were last out of 14 teams,” said coach Chad Klinck. [Full Story »] 

33 Sea Dragons headed for state meet

Out of 37 Jefferson Sea Dragons that took part in the last weekend’s GPRA District Meet at the Frances Meadows Aquatic Center in Gainesville, 33 will be traveling to state competition later this month.

Fourteen of those swimmers made state in one or two individual events, while the others are part of medley or freestyle relay teams that qualified. Eight swimmers qualified in two individual events and two relays.

By comparison, last year the team took 17 swimmers to state. [Full Story »] 

Sea Dragons net several firsts at Dacula

The Jefferson Sea Dragons took part in an Invitational Developmental meet at Dacula last week, coming home with several first place results.

Gregory Prozorovskiy placed first in the boys’ 6-under 25 Freestyle and first in the boys’ 6-under 25 Backstroke.

Jackson Lamb took first in the boys’ 8-under 25 Freestyle, first in the boys’ 8-under 25 Backstroke and first in the boys’ 8-under 25 Butterfly. [Full Story »] 

Several Sea Dragons take first at Gainesville meet

It was a successful outing for the Jefferson Sea Dragons on Saturday, as they took part in the North Georgia Swim League SPLASH event held at the Francis Meadows Acquatic Center in Gainesville.

Several of Jefferson’s swimmers brought home first place finishes, while several others placed in the top ten, with some events having over 100 swimmers take part.

Ryan Childress took first in the Girls 25 10-under Freestyle. Gregory Prozorovskiy took first in the boys’ 6-under Backstroke. Heather Perry took first in the girls’ 10-under Breaststroke. [Full Story »] 

Swim Dragons open season at Winder

The Jefferson Park and Rec Sea Dragons Swim team traveled to Winder Saturday to take part in a Pentathlon swim meet at the Winder YMCA.

The meet was unique in that only the North Georgia Swim League’s top swimmers, 261 kids out of over 1,000, get to compete.

Swimmers must compete in all four individual stroke events, and then compete in the Individual Medley, which requires the swimmer to swim one lap of all four strokes. [Full Story »] 

Jefferson Sea Dragons prepare for 2009 season

The Jefferson Park and Rec swim team, the Sea Dragons, are set to get their 2009 summer season kicked off next week, and according to team administrator and assistant coach Chad Klinck, it should be one of the best on record for the program.

Klinck says the team has about 95 kids this year, up from 80 that took part last year.

“(Between) 15-20 of them have started swimming year round now and that really helps the team,” he said. “Two years ago we did not have any year round swimmers. If we had some older swimmers we could probably compete for a league or GRPA state title, but until we get a high school team we will continue to lose swimmers to other sports.” [Full Story »]

The Jefferson Sea Dragons have finished the 2008 season with a 12th place finish.

The state swimmers include Lindsey Kelly, Haley Bartoletta, Joshua Joransen, Camille Porter, Heather Perry, Ryan Childress, Abby Richardson, Ben Goocher, Gabrielle Joransen, Andrew Bartek, and Jeremy Deremer.

The Sea Dragons traveled to the state meet in Tifton where, according to coach Chad Klinck, each of the swimmers qualified and scored points for the Jefferson team.

This season had the swimmers showing marked improvement for the young team.

Sea Dragons finish fourth at league champions, ready for state weekend

The Jefferson Sea Dragons traveled north to Habersham County this past weekend to compete in the North Georgia Swim League Championship.

The NGSL meet was a little different than what the swimmers are accustomed due to the meet being more of a team effort than individual scores.

Jefferson snagged a respectable fourth place improving from last year’s finish in sixth.

Out of the 12 teams in the league, Jefferson is on the smaller side with 81 swimmers compared to the nearly 200 swimmers other teams brought.

Head coach Matthew Grant and recreation director Ben Dillard have both been credited with the success of the team this season.

The swimmers had a good meet at Habersham, with four first place finishes from Joshua Joransen, Gabrielle Joransen, and McKenzie Klinck.

Klinck also was one of 12 swimmers that won a high point award out of the 600 plus swimmers at the meet.

The Sea Dragons will be sending 17 swimmers to compete in the GPRA state meet this weekend in Tifton.
