The North Georgia Swim League hosted its annual “Splash Meet” this past weekend in Habersham County with 275 swimmers competing.
The Winder YMCA Barracudas had 51 swimmers competing. Some top finishers for coach Karen Murphy’s Barracudas included Joe Allen, Dylan Barnes, Mitchell Buttler, Jenna Crow, Ian Hentenaar, Megan Lance, Quinn McDaniels, and Mitchell Spangler. Outstanding personal best times were swum by 15-18-year-old Billy Hentenaar and 13-14-year-old Quinn McDaniels.
Five additional Barracuda swimmers also earned All-Star status. They included Jenna Crow, Jacob Harrison, Jack McDaniels, Daniel Morales, and Morgan Vandergriff.

While all eyes of late have been on Jefferson High School’s sports programs as of late, the programs at Jefferson Middle School have had a pretty stellar year as well.
In football, JMS went undefeated, winning the region championship, with the team led by coaches Chad Cheatham, Jesse Fowler, Brandon Vinson, Keith Ramey, Montrae Riley, and Brian Holcombe.

Demitrie Keith Palm competed in the SuperNatural Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship held Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Southern Polytech State University in Marietta.
Palm placed third in the Open Mens Tall Division and fourth place in the Mens Masters.
“The day of the competition is a very, very long day and you have to be prepared mentally as well as physically,” Palm said. “You can’t be filled with doubt, wondering if so-and-so looks better. You’ve trained hard and have eaten clean for several months. It’s about you, period.” [Full Story »]
