Braselton’s Shane Sawyer started up front and finished in the same place, recording another Pro Late Model victory at Lanier National Speedway Saturday night.

Sawyer fell back on the drop of the green flag, and then charged back to take the lead on the fourth lap. He would lead the next 46 circuits to take the victory.

It was a double race night for the truck division, as it was a make-up night for last week’s rain out. Kristin Wallace recorded her first win of the year in one race, while Paul Antley recorded his seventh victory of 2009 in the other. [Full Story »] 

No matter how hard it rained Saturday, it wasn’t going to ruin Casey Roderick’s parade.

The Lawrenceville native was out front in the GAS series event at Lanier National Speedway when the skies opened up on lap 88 of the 100-lap Pro Late Model event. When the event was called due to the rain, that gave Roderick his first career GAS series win.

Roderick, piloting the number 19 Bill Elliott Motorsports Ford, started on the outside of the front row, alongside Bill Elliott’s son, Chase, who is also Roderick’s teammate. [Full Story »] 

Braselton’s Shane Sawyer took control of the Pro Late Model event Saturday night at Lanier National Speedway on the 12th lap, and never looked back as he recorded his second win of the year at the Braselton short track.

“We have had back luck so far this year, but lucky it was one of those nights to where everything worked out right for us,” Sawyer said after the win.

The Braselton driver won the pole for the late model event, but was moved to fourth on an inversion dice roll. Tony Bennett led the first 12 laps before giving up the lead to Sawyer. [Full Story »] 

On paper, Paul Kelley’s night at Lanier National Speedway looked like a walk in the park. The Pendergrass racer started from the pole, led the most laps and won the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour 100 on Saturday.

But despite the nice stat line, Kelley had his hands full in taking his second win of the season.

After battling the heat and Casey Roderick for the first half of the event, Kelley spent the rest of the 100-lap race fighting Dacula’s Russell Fleeman for the victory. [Full Story »] 

It was a family affair Saturday night at Lanier National Speedway as Greg Simpson held off his brother Shawn to take the win in the Pro-Late Model feature event. Greg took the lead on the 14th lap, and would stay there the rest of the night to win the 60-lap race.

The event was stopped by a lengthy red flag after the cars of James Nealis and Shane Chastain crashed on the front stretch. After the cleanup, Greg was able to hold off Shawn for the win, with Braselton’s Shane Sawyer finishing third, Trey Poole fourth and Dwayne Buggay fifth. Jeremy Rice, Dalton Grindle, Tom Schuette, Will Prance and Cale Langford rounded out the top ten. [Full Story »]

Last weekend’s ARCA RE/MAX race at the two-mile Michigan International Speedway marked a lot of firsts for twenty-five-year-old Jefferson native Ryan Crane. It was his first time on a track over 1.5 miles in length and his first in a car that produced speeds well over 180 mph.

One would have never known such at day’s end as Crane brought home his #51 Phoenix Construction Dodge seventh in just his second series start.

After Thursday’s qualifying and practice session got washed out due to heavy rains, Crane was forced to a twenty ninth place starting position and only fifty minutes of practice race day morning to get accustomed to the two mile track and his James Finch owned race car. After quickly getting used to the track, Crane posted the fourteenth quickest time during the abbreviated session.

Just a few months ago Jefferson native Ryan Crane was making his ARCA RE/MAX series debut at the famed Rockingham Speedway.

Now Crane is preparing to attempt his second series start for car owner James Finch at the Michigan International Speedway Friday.

The two mile track at Michigan will mark the largest in size the youngster has ever competed on but that doesn’t seem to faze Crane or car owner James Finch one bit. [Full Story »] 

Jefferson native Ryan Crane made a big step in his racing career this past weekend, as he made his debut in the ARCA Re/Max series, piloting a Dodge owned by NASCAR car owner James Finch at Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina.

Crane turned in a strong debut performance, piloting his unsponsored Dodge to an eighth in the Carolina 200. [Full Story »]
