Banks County High School Athletic Director and head football coach Blair Armstrong has tendered his letter of resignation effective as of March 10.

Armstrong, who came to Banks County in 2007, led the football team in breaking a decade long playoff drought with the successful 2008 campaign and then completed the most recent season, 7-3, the highest win-loss record since 1997.

Armstrong will leave Banks County to take a position as the head football coach at North Forsyth High School replacing Jared Zito. North Forsyth is a Region 6, 5A school and was coached by Zito since 2007. The North Forsyth Raiders went 5-6 last season.

The Jackson County Comprehensive High School has changed a few things for this season’s football time.

A change in region, dropping to 8-AAA, and additions to the coaching staff have all started to put a shine on the Panthers franchise for the fall, but the additions to the weight room are just another cog in the wheel to hopefully pull the Panthers out of the gutter of last season. [Full Story »] 

While the Georgia High School Association forces the state’s football teams to wait to begin practice, the rules never say anything about how early on the first day the schools can start.

That is why the official start of JCCHS Panthers’ football practice is at 12:01 a.m., Friday, August 1.

Coach Billy Kirk is taking advantage of every minute of practice he can get for the Panthers.

Jefferson plays their third game against Eagles Landing Christian at 3 p.m. Friday, May 16.
