Commerce Travels To Social Circle Thursday

It was an up and down week for the Commerce Lady Tigers, as they lost their first region game of the season to Hebron Christian Academy last Tuesday, then followed it the next day with a towering non-region victory over Johnson.

The Commerce Lady Tigers continue to roll in region play, going undefeated after winning against Prince Avenue 4-2 last week.

The win gave the Lady Tigers a 3-0 region record, and 5-9 overall.

Commerce was scheduled to host another undefeated region rival, Tuesday, the Lady Lions of Hebron Christian Academy. Hebron had won its previous four meetings with Commerce, dating back to September 2006.

Up next for the Lady Tigers is a trip to Gainesville to take on Johnson on Wednesday (today). Going into play on Tuesday, the Lady Knights were winless on the season.

Commerce softball coach Pam Canup said from the beginning of the 2008 season that the focus would be on getting the key elements of her team in place in time for the start of region play.

It appears that they were able to do that, as the Lady Tigers won their first two region match-ups of the season, defeating Towns County 9-1 and Social Circle 5-4. [Full Story »] 

With the loss of several seniors for both teams, the GACA Coaches pre-season softball poll shows the uncertainty that some people feel in how Commerce and East Jackson will fare in the upcoming season, which gets under way Friday.

The poll, released by GaSports.com on Friday, has Commerce in eighth place in the polling for 8-A. Last year, the Lady Tigers finished second in the region. [Full Story »] 

The Commerce Lady Tigers will open up the 2008 softball season on Friday, as they take part in the Lanier Point Tournament in Gainesville.

But when they hit the field at 6:30 p.m., it will be a vastly different team from the last few seasons.
