Lady Tigers Suffer Loss Before Break

The Commerce High School Lady Tigers are 2-6 overall, but they’re 2-0 in region play before the Christmas break.

Saturday night was hard on the Lady Tigers as the much quicker quad-A Apalachee squad overran the Lady Tigers in a lopsided 50-30 game.

Commerce will return to the court in the Jackson County Jingle Jam Christmas Tournament next Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29-30.

The Lady Tigers face off against Providence Christian in the first round of the tournament on Monday Dec. 29. Action starts at 3 p.m., with the Commerce boys versus Providence Christian to follow. [ Full Story » ] 

CHS Ladies Grab First Region Win Over Indians

Last Friday was a great night for the Commerce Lady Tigers, who recorded a 54-15 win over Tallulah Falls in a region match-up.

Picking up the first region win, and head coach Eddie McCurley’s 400th career win, provided the Commerce fans who made the trip north an exciting game.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead, going up 18-2 at the end of the first quarter. By the half, the lead was 32-8.

In the third quarter, Commerce put up an additional 18 points to four for Tallulah Falls, making the score 50-12. [ Full Story » ] 

Tigers’ Basketball Opener Is Saturday At Apalachee

Commerce’s basketball teams will open their season Saturday.

Lady Tigers wrap season at Dalton

The Lady Tigers ended their 2008 season at the Class A North Sectionals in Dalton with a 1-0 loss to Hebron Christian.

Commerce got six hits and played well according to Coach Pam Canup.

“We played very, very well,” Canup said. “In the bottom of the seventh [Hebron] had back-to-back hits and scored.” [ Full Story » ] 

Lady Tigers Face Wesleyan Friday

The Commerce Lady Tigers softball team has worked hard all season to make it to Friday’s sectional game.

The Lady Tigers will face Wesleyan at 6 p.m. in the Class A North Sectional at Heritage Pointe, Dalton. If the ladies advance, they will face either Gordon Lee or Walker at 8 p.m.

Commerce is ranked in the top ten in Georgia for class A and finished the regular season at 10-12 overall.

While the ladies are preparing for Friday’s game, they are also congratulating two of their teammates. Brooklynn Stinchomb and CJ Wilkes were named to All-Region for 8-A. Honorable mentions went to Bekah Andrews and Brittney Beauchamp.

Commerce Prepares For Final Region Game

After picking up a pair of region victories last week, the Commerce Lady Tigers will focus on winning their last three regular-season games, one of which is a region contest.

The Tigers were scheduled to play Banks County today (Wednesday) at home, host AAA Johnson on Thursday, then travel to Hebron Christian next Tuesday for the last game of the season.

While Banks and Johnson are not region games, coach Pam Canup said the ladies still regard both as very important, since Commerce is now looking for placement at sectionals. Both games will be at home and start at 5 p.m. [ Full Story » ]

Sept. 23 - The Lady Tigers of Commerce continued their roll, as they picked up a win Tuesday over Towns County 10-1. It was the third win of the season for Commerce over Towns County.

Sept. 26 - Make it three wins in a row for the Lady Tigers, as they defeated Social Circle 6-4 Thursday. With the win, Commerce is 5-1 in region play, and 8-10 overall.

Commerce Travels To Social Circle Thursday

It was an up and down week for the Commerce Lady Tigers, as they lost their first region game of the season to Hebron Christian Academy last Tuesday, then followed it the next day with a towering non-region victory over Johnson.

Sept. 16 - The Lady Tigers of Commerce lost their first region game of the season on Tuesday, as they fell to Hebron Christian Academy 5-1. Commerce was scheduled to travel to Johnson, Gainesville on Wednesday.

Lady Tigers Undefeated In Region Play

The Commerce Lady Tigers continue to roll in region play, going undefeated after winning against Prince Avenue 4-2 last week.

The win gave the Lady Tigers a 3-0 region record, and 5-9 overall.

Commerce was scheduled to host another undefeated region rival, Tuesday, the Lady Lions of Hebron Christian Academy. Hebron had won its previous four meetings with Commerce, dating back to September 2006.

Up next for the Lady Tigers is a trip to Gainesville to take on Johnson on Wednesday (today). Going into play on Tuesday, the Lady Knights were winless on the season.
