The East Jackson Lady Eagles hope to start their postseason on a high note.

The Lady Eagles face a play-in match next Tuesday as the fifth seed from their side of the area for a chance to get into the area tournament. They will face either Tallulah Falls or Rabun County, depending on the outcome of games this week.

Last week didn’t give the Lady Eagles the boost they needed. After playing well the previous week, including a win against Gainesville, they lost to Jefferson and Eastside last Tuesday. [Full Story »] 

East Jackson’s Lady Eagles volleyball team ended last week on a high note, recording its fourth win of the season with a victory over Gainesville.

The Lady Eagles will host Rabun County at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Lady Eagles started out last week by facing Madison County and Winder-Barrow on the road. Against Madison County, East Jackson was handed a 2-0 loss, with set scores of 25-18 and 25-19. [Full Story »] 

The East Jackson Eagles started the cross country season at the Northeast Georgia Championships Saturday at Athens Christian with 1-2 finishes.

The Lady Eagles came away with the varsity championship, while the boys’ team captured the runner-up spot.
Next up for the Eagles is a trip to Gainesville for the War Eagle Classic on Sept. 8.

At Athens Christian Saturday, Sherri Blalock led the way for the girls with a second place-finish out of 108 runners. [Full Story »] 

It’s been a bumpy start for the East Jackson Lady Eagles volleyball team, as it enters the week with a 1-6 record.

The Lady Eagles will take to the court on Thursday at Clarke Central against the Gladiators and Salem, beginning at 5 p.m.

The East Jackson Lady Eagles softball team got their season underway over the weekend, as they traveled to Stephens County to take part in tournament play Friday and Saturday.

Up next, the Lady Eagles will travel north to Habersham County to face the Lady Raiders on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

After a rocky start on Friday, with the Lady Eagles falling to Lumpkin County 2-0, East Jackson fought their way into contention on Saturday by defeating Prince Avenue Christian 7-6 and host Stephens County 8-2. [Full Story »] 

East Jackson Comprehensive High School’s lone participant in the girls’ state track meet in Albany recorded a tenth-place finish and set a new
personal best height.

Jessie Harper cleared 4’10” in the high jump, her best jump on record. It was good enough for a tenth-place finish in in an event won by Westminster.

Coach Steve Collins said the trip was a “good first experience” for Harper, who had placed second in the high jump in the region finals at East Jackson earlier in the month to qualify for state.

After delays due to rain, the East Jackson girls’ track team was finally able to wrap up their region meet last week.

The Lady Eagles finished sixth at region with 47 points. They trailed region champs North Oconee, Jefferson, Rabun County, Oglethorpe and Dawson County.

Jessie Harper was the only team member to qualify for state competition when she finished second in the high jump.

With the boys’ region meet looming on the horizon this week and the girls’ region set for the following week, the East Jackson Eagles track and field teams continue to prepare for what they hope will be a good showing.

East Jackson’s boys took top honors over Jackson County and Franklin County in a meet at Jackson County on Thursday. The Eagles scored 67 points to Jackson County’s 55 and Franklin’s 39.

The girls, meanwhile, found themselves trailing at the Jackson County meet, scoring 44 points to winner Franklin’s 55 and Jackson County’s 50. [Full Story »]
