Jefferson made a clean sweep of Hart County on the road Monday, with both the boys and the girls winning 5-0.

For the girls, Bell Blankenship won at number one singles with set scores of 6-2, 6-3. Maggie Broome won at number two singles with set scores of 6-1, 6-1. Miranda McGarity won at number three singles with set scores of 6-0, 6-1. [Full Story »]

Despite wet weather delays, the Jefferson Dragons added another win to their tally with a victory over Walnut Grove Tuesday.

Next up for Jefferson is a Friday double header on the road, as the Dragons will face Union County in back-to-back games.

The Panthers enter play this week with a 4-2 overall record, but 0-1 in the region after falling to Dawson County last week in their region opener. [Full Story »]

Jefferson loses to Thomasville in state semi-finals

For only the third time in school history, the Jefferson Dragons last week traveled to Macon for the final four in state basketball playoffs. They were hoping to be able to make it one more game, to the championship game on Saturday.

But it didn’t pan out that way, as the Dragons came up short against the Thomasville Bulldogs, losing 69-43. [Full Story »]

Jefferson defeats Westminster, Callaway

For the first time in 27 years, the Jefferson Dragons boys’ basketball team is heading for the final four in Macon.

They got there by winning very close games against Westminster and Callaway that easily could have gone against them. But the Dragons fought back both times to put themselves in a position to contend for the state title. [Full Story »]

A victory Friday night in Dalton over Callaway means the Jefferson Dragons will be heading to the basketball Final Four playoffs for the first time since 1983.

The Dragons rallied in the fourth quarter to cut the lead held by Callaway, then move ahead to win 65-58.

Jefferson will move on to play in Macon on Thursday against the winner of the Thomasville and Henry County pairing. [Full Story »] 

Jefferson downed by Jackson County

It wasn’t the start to the season that the Jefferson soccer teams were hoping for, as both the boys and the girls teams fell to Jackson County last week.

The boys lost 5-1 to the Panthers, while the girls came up on the short end of a 1-0 final.

Girls’ coach Shannon Dupree said their match with the Lady Panthers was a good one, but Jefferson ran into trouble when their goalkeeper had to leave the game due to a technical red card. Dupree said the player will be out for the next game as well. [Full Story »]

The Jefferson Dragons split their opening two games of the 2010 season, losing their opener to Oconee County before recording a victory on the road over Madison County.

Up next is a home stand for Jefferson, as they will host the Red Raiders of Madison County on Thursday.

The Jefferson golf teams got their season underway Monday afternoon at Lane Creek Golf course against Oconee County.

The boys came up short in the team match, 173 to Oconee’s 161.

The boys were led by newcomer Cory Dams, with a 41. He was followed by Michael Baker with a 42, Cutler Finch with a 44 and Patrick Hilton with a 46. [Full Story »] 

Jefferson defeats Westminster, moves to Elite Eight

After leading for most of the game, the Jefferson Dragons worked hard in the final seconds to hold off a late charge by Westminster to pick up a 58-56 win Wednesday night, and advance into the Elite Eight in AA state playoffs.

After a tight first quarter, the Dragons took firm control of the game in the following 16 minutes. A late surge from Westminster, who scored 26 points in the fourth quarter to challenge. But in the end, Jefferson withstood the charge for the win. [Full Story »]

Dragons defeat Manchester to advance in state play

For 31 minutes, things looked tough for the Dragon Nation, as Jefferson worked to close the gap on the Manchester Blue Devils.

But a three-pointer followed by a tip-in in the last 16 seconds of play left the crowd cheering and meant the Dragons would be continuing on in state play with a one-point victory over Manchester. [Full Story »]
