The Lady Panthers fast pitch softball team will start their year on a renovated field later this month.

The JCCHS booster club has funded a major overhaul to the field, including a batting cage, a new block backstop with netting and poles and various other renovations.

The Lady Panthers will also have a new coach this year, as Lisa Robinson takes over as head coach. [Full Story »]

JCCHS season slated to open August 28 in Fairburn

With school starting back for Jackson County Comprehensive High School students this week, classes aren’t the only thing back in session.

Saturday marked the first official day of football practice for the Jackson County Panthers. Team members hit the practice field this week looking to improve on last year’s 1-8-1 season, and looking to record their first region win since September of 2006. [Full Story »]

It was a good weekend of summer baseball for the Jackson County Panthers, as they hosted the Summer Shootout tournament for several area teams.

The Panthers’ red team went 3-0-1, with pitching performances from Ken Miller, Austin Robinson, Larry Evans and Jon Florentine.

Evans threw eight innings on the weekend without giving up a hit. [Full Story »]

Jackson County Comprehensive High School will be hosting the first annual Jackson County Baseball Summer Shootout, starting Thursday and running through Saturday.

East Jackson, Commerce and Banks County will also be host sites for the weekend, as 20 teams travel to the area to participate.

“This is the first time we’ve ever hosted a summer tournament, but we believe it’s one of the things we needed to do to help get our program where we want it to be,” said JCCHS head baseball coach Tommy Fountain. “We’re so excited about the teams coming in and are looking forward to a great weekend.” [Full Story »] 

Williams named All-Region shortstop

JCCHS junior Rob Williams was recently named the first team All Region shortstop for region 8-AAA baseball.

Honorable mentions also went to Codye Elrod, Zack Sticher, and Austin Robinson.

JCCHS state meet results under appeal

It was a disappointing trip to Albany for Jackson County’s lone state track qualifier over the weekend.

After winning the region title in the 3200, Brittany Aiken traveled to Albany for the girls’ state meet.

She ran a 12:24 in the 3200-meters, placing eighth, but was disqualified for allegedly running off of the track.

Panthers get high marks for spring practice

The Jackson County Panthers hit the field the last two weeks for spring practice with a new system and with high hopes of making 2009 a strong, winning football season for JCCHS.

With practice under his team’s belts, JCCHS head football coach Billy Kirk was prepared to give a report card this week on how things went for his team during the first official practice of 2009.

Overall, he gave the team a B-, saying the Panthers were more physical than he had seen in his two previous years at JCCHS. [Full Story »] 

Lady Panthers take sixth at region meet

The Jackson County girls track team came away from their region meet with a sixth place finish, while one girl will move on to the state meet next week.

Jackson County earned 66 points in the region meet, which was delayed last week due to rainy weather. The Lady Panthers finished behind region champ Elbert County, Eastside, Oconee County, Hart County and Franklin County.

Brittany Aikens was the region champion in the 3200-meters and will move on to the state meet this weekend. Aikens also placed third in the 1600-meters.

Spring practice underway for JCCHS

The Jackson County Panthers hit the field last week for the start of spring football practice at JCCHS.

While many parts of the process are similar to the past, the message that coach Billy Kirk is trying to get through to his players is one of confidence.

“We are trying to tell our kids ‘It can be done’ at Jackson County,” Kirk said. “We have had some confidence issues in the past and we need to understand that so everything we say to our kids has been positive.” [Full Story »]

The Jackson County Panthers wrapped up their baseball season on Thursday on a high note, recording a win against Meadowcreek.

The win means the Panthers end their 2009 campaign with an 8-15 overall record, and 3-11 in the region.
