The Jackson County Mat Panthers traveled to Hart County over the weekend to take part in the Georgia-Carolina Classic, an event they had won in 2008 and in 2009.

They had a good showing this year, but came up short on getting a third win in a row. Instead, the team went 3-2 on the weekend, finishing in fourth place.

Jackson County secured wins over Franklin County 67-12, Hephzibah 42-26 and Stephens County 44-24. They lost to Oconee County 48-30 and to East Jackson 43-26.

The Jackson County Panthers were hoping to use the Jingle Jam tournament at The Pit in Jefferson to turn their season around before the main part of their region schedule got underway.

Instead, they ended up splitting the difference with a win and a loss in the tournament, leaving them 2-8 overall going into the New Year’s break.

Now the region schedule is about to kick into full swing, as the Panthers prepare to travel to Stephens County to face the Indians on Friday. In their most recent meeting on Dec. 16, Stephens came away the victor with a 51-34 final.

For the past few weeks, the Lady Panthers of Jackson County have been looking to swing momentum back in their favor.

After three losses in a row, Jackson County was hoping a Dec. 19 win over West Hall might be the turning point to get the team back on track.

That proved to be the case, as the Lady Panthers went undefeated in last weekend’s Jingle Jam to win their home tournament, and improve to 8-3 overall. [ Full Story » ]

It was another tough week for the Panthers of Jackson County, as they recorded two losses, first to Stephens County on Tuesday, then to West Hall on Friday.

Now the Panthers look ahead to Dec. 29, and the chance to play host to the Jingle Jam tournament with Commerce, Providence and Hebron Christian taking part.

Jackson County will hit the court at 7:30 p.m. against Hebron to start the tournament off. The rest of the schedule will be determined by Monday’s results. [ Full Story » ] 

The Lady Panthers of Jackson County were hoping to pick up some momentum heading into the Christmas break.

They did just that. After a loss to Stephens County on Tuesday, the Lady Panthers rebounded with a strong victory over West Hall on Friday night to give them a 6-2 overall record, while they continue to search for their first region victory of the season.

Up next, Jackson County plays host to Commerce, Providence and Hebron Christian for the Jingle Jam tournament, beginning on Monday. The Lady Panthers start their tournament play at 6 p.m. against Hebron, with the outcome to determine Tuesday’s schedule. [ Full Story » ] 

It was a tough weekend for the Jackson County Mat Panthers as an odd format in the USMC Raider Rumble at Alpharetta High School gave a couple of JCCHS’ top grapplers fits, and landed the team with a seventh place finish.

“The format had us wrestle in three pool matches on Friday night and then the wrestlers were seeded according to how they did in the pools,” said coach Jason Powers. “Due to the format that was used we got a lot of bad draws that played havoc on some of our better wrestlers Saturday.”

On Saturday, losers in the first two rounds of wrestling were eliminated from the tournament. Kevin Spicer went 3-0 with three pins on Friday, was seeded fourth, drawing the only wrestler he has lost to this year. He lost before placement rounds. [ Full Story » ]
