There’s a saying in auto racing that states sometimes you have to slow down to go fast.

One of the most critical phases of the Gresham Motorsports Park renovation got underway last week with the removal of the track’s old half-mile racing surface.

“You can’t believe how happy I am to have this part of the project underway,” said track general manager Dan Elliott. “It’s very hard to find the right people to do the job. With the banking in the turns a full 14 degrees, not just any company could do this. Sunbelt Asphalt is that kind of company and are just as interested in what the surface is going to look like, how it’s going to race, and how it’s going to stand up to racing as we are. Honestly, I think they are more enthusiastic about getting started on it than I am.” [Full Story »] 

Gresham Motorsports Park has formally announced the dates and format for the 2009 World Crown 300 – the event that will reopen the former Peach State Speedway.

According to Tony Gresham, a partner in the new Gresham Motorsports Park project, the Friday-Sunday, November 13-15 event, will return to a special event format that proved to be highly successful in the past. [Full Story »] 

The renovation process at Gresham Motorsports Park got underway in earnest Tuesday with groundbreaking on the site of the former Peach State Speedway.

“We got the permits completed to do the dirt work and we’re off and rolling,” said GMP General Manager Dan Elliott. “We’ve broken ground and we’ve begun the excavation for the new entrances, the grandstand and the lowering of the infield. It’s a big day around here.”

When completed this fall, Gresham Motorsports Park will feature a totally refurbished asphalt racing surface, fencing and retaining walls for the half-mile oval. [Full Story »] 

Former Peach State Speedway to be ‘flipped’

With a ‘to-do list’ seemingly longer than the half-mile racing surface at Gresham Motorsports Park, Dan Elliott and the speedway’s new management team have their work cut out for them in refurbishing the former Peach State Speedway.

“We’ve done extremely well to accomplish the things we have in the time we’ve done it in,” stated Elliott, the General Manager of the Jefferson racetrack. “We’ve got most of the demolition we can do done and we’re waiting for the permits to get finalized. It’s kind of like a rain delay in racing. You’re waiting for the race to start and you can’t wait to get in and get it done. [Full Story »]
