Fleeman Scores Second GAS Championship

It was a historic night for the Georgia Asphalt Series as it wrapped up their 2008 season at Peach State Speedway Saturday night, and crowned a 2008 champion.

It appeared that Kyle Fowler was on his way to his first GAS victory after dominating the 100-lap event.

But a determined Dennis Wilder, from Commerce, passed Fowler with two laps remaining to win his first GAS series event in the Hedman Husler Hedders 100. [Full Story »] 

After taking an early lead, Kyle Fowler looked unstoppable as he roared towards his first career GAS series win at Peach State Speedway Saturday night.

But somebody forgot to tell Commerce driver Dennis Wilder, who stormed out of nowhere to catch and pass Fowler with two laps left to claim his first career GAS series win. Wilder also became the tenth different winner over the 12 race GAS season, a new series record.

Meanwhile, Dacula's Russell Fleeman steered clear of trouble to bring his Ford home in fifth, giving him his second consecutive Georgia Asphalt Series championship.

It was a history making night, as Fleeman's title win made him the first driver in series history to win back-to-back championships.

The top ten finishers, unofficially, were;

9. Bubba Pollard (Senoia, GA)
10. Ralph Carnes (Anderson, SC)

All results are unofficial until confirmed by Georgia Asphalt Series officials.

A big night of racing is on tap at Peach State Speedway on Saturday. Not only will it be the season finale for the Georgia Asphalt Series, the National Vintage Racing Association has been added to the card.

The 2008 GAS Series season will come to a close with the Hedman Husler Hedder 100. The 2008 series points championship is coming down to the wire between 2007 GAS Series Champion Russell Fleeman and Ryan Seig. [Full Story »] 

Only one driver this year had recorded more than one victory on the Georgia Asphalt Series tour. Bubba Pollard, of Senoia, had twice visited victory lane.

On Saturday night, he upped that number to three with a victory at Peach State Speedway.

It wasn’t an easy one to win, either. Piloting the number 42 normally driven by Tony Clark, Pollard first had to chase down Commerce racer Taylor Satterfield.

Then he had to duel longtime GAS series rival Paul Kelley, of Pendergrass, before pulling away for the win. [Full Story »] 

GAS Officials Release Revised Results

Senoia driver Bubba Pollard grabbed his third Georgia Asphalt Series win of the season at Peach State Speedway Saturday night after a spirited battle with Paul Kelley of Pendergrass.

Kelley recovered from a last lap tangle with a lap car to finish second, although GAS timing and scoring originally listed his as finishing fifth.

Fans will have the chance to take in two unique events as part of the World Crown Weekend at Peach State Speedway Nov. 7-9.

Track officials have announced the addition of a Super Late Model event and an Open Wheel Modified race during the days leading up to the World Crown.
