The 2012 football season was somewhat of a trial under fire for the Bethlehem Christian Academy football team.

The Knights were playing a full varsity schedule for the first time in school history and took some lumps along the way. However, there were also some bright spots including three wins (two of which came in region play) and an establishment of a foundation which should help carry the BCA program into 2013 and beyond.

“There were some good things from this season,” said Knights head coach Don Garmon. “We feel we could have had even more wins. The key from the beginning of the season for us was to not have many injuries. Unfortunately, that’s difficult to prevent in football. By the end of the year, we had several players out with injuries and that hurts when you don’t have a deep roster.” [Full Story »] 

The curtain fell on the first full varsity season for the Bethlehem Christian Academy football team Friday night.

The Knights finished the 2012 season 3-7 overall after falling to perennial state power Thomas Jefferson 71-26. The Jaguars are once again region champs and are the favorites to win the GISA Class A title.

“Offensively, they are as good of a team as we’ve seen,” said BCA coach Don Garmon. “They run multiple sets. They’ll be in the wishbone one play and then four wides. They will then work out of the shotgun and then go to the Wing T formation. Defensively, you have to be on your toes.” [Full Story »] 

Bethlehem Christian Academy needs to win Friday night and then get a little help to qualify for the state playoffs in their first full season of varsity play.

Neither task will be easy. The Knights will travel to Thomas Jefferson, a perennial region and state champion for the final regular season contest. BCA needs to win and then have John Hancock, who is winless in 2012, upset David Emanuel.

Both scenarios need to happen since David Emanuel has the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Knights. Thomas Jefferson has already clinched the Region 1-A title after defeating Curtis Baptist last week by a 54-0 score. The Jaguars are 7-3 overall and have scored more than 40 points in all seven wins. The Bethlehem Christian Academy football team overcame all obstacles put in front of it and defeated Nathanael Greene 37-7 Friday night.

The Knights (3-6 overall, 2-23 in GISA Region 1-A) still cling to postseason hopes but it will take a couple of upsets to make it happen. Going into this week, BCA coach Don Garmon said he was pleased with the fight and determination his players showed Friday night.

“I liked the way we came out in the second half and corrected some things,” Garmon said of Friday’s win. [Full Story »] 

After a bye week to heal and regroup, the Bethlehem Christian Academy football team will be back in action Friday night as the Knights travel to Nathanael Greene Academy in Siloam.

With injuries taking a toll on the BCA team this fall, the coaches spent last week working on reshuffling some players into different positions on the field.
“It was a good week,” coach Don Garmon said. “We moved some players around and worked on fundamentals.”

Kevin Green, who is battling an ankle injury, returned to practice at full speed although Graham Doolittle and Danny Sceviour are both out with injuries. [Full Story »] 

The playoff hopes of the Bethlehem Christian Academy football team were hurt Friday with a 46-12 loss to Dawson Street.

The Knights trailed 28-12 at halftime but the visiting Wildcats would score 26 unaswered points to put the game out of reach.

“We had some penalties which hurt us early in the game and stalled out some drives,” said BCA coach Don Garmon. [Full Story »] 

Bethlehem Christian Academy’s trip to Curtis Baptist in Augusta did not produce the deserved results as the gridiron Knights fell 45-0.
BCA coach Don Garmon said he knew going in it would be a difficult game for the Knights.

“Their style of play was going to be tough for us,” Garmon said. “We knew we were going to have some matchup problems. There were a ton of penalties called in the game as well. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many penalties called in one game.”

Curtis Baptist seized control of the contest pretty quickly and never gave the visiting Knights a chance to get on track. [Full Story »] 

While Bethlehem Christian Academy football coach Don Garmon knows it takes time to build a successful program on the gridiron, the Knights’ mentor still has expectations for the 2012 season.

Garmon wants the team to qualify for the state playoffs and get a taste of what competing at that level is about. BCA took a step toward that goal in dismantling John Hancock Academy 68-0 last Friday in a GISA Region 1-A contest.

It was a school record for points as well as the program’s first region football victory. [Full Story »] 

P.J. Klein put the first points of the game on the scoreboard for the Bethlehem Christian Academy Knights Friday night approximately four minutes into the contest. It would be a sign of things to come for both Klein and the BCA squad as they rolled to a 68-0 region win against John Hancock Academy.

In a game played at Legion Field in Monroe, the Knights evened their GISA Region 1-A record at 1-1 and improved to 2-4 overall. It was the first region victory in program history and the most points scored by the varsity football squad in its brief history.

“We felt good going into the game because we had a good week of preparation,” said BCA coach Don Garmon. “I liked the way we started the game by putting points on the scoreboard quickly.” [Full Story »]
