The Lady Eagles of East Jackson are riding a wave of success into the Christmas break.

Their good fortune started with a victory last Wednesday against Commerce, then carried on to Friday night with a win over Washington-Wilkes.

The Lady Eagles get a chance to catch their breath now, as they will be out of action until Dec. 23, when they will travel to Philips Arena in Atlanta to face North Hall. [ Full Story » ] 

It’s been a good start to the season for the Mat Eagles of East Jackson.

First, they placed second to Dacula in the Westside Rumble Tournament on Nov. 21, scoring 185.5 points to Dacula’s 220. [ Full Story » ] 

It was not the week the East Jackson Lady Eagles had hoped for, as they dropped a game to Stephens County last Tuesday, then lost to Oconee County on Friday.

Next up for the 1-4 Lady Eagles is a home stand against the Lady Tigers of Commerce tonight (Wednesday). Commerce enters the match-up 1-1 on the season, fresh off a victory over Tallulah Falls Friday night.

A few days after losing to Grayson to open the Talon Tip-Off Tournament at home, the East Jackson Lady Eagles picked up their first win of the season over Johnson on Nov. 25, then lost a close game to North Hall on Nov. 29.

Now the Lady Eagles turn their attention to regular season play, as they prepare to host Oconee County on Friday. The Lady Warriors enter the contest with a 1-1 record prior to action on Tuesday, having scored 74 points overall, but having allowed 96 points to be scored against them. In their last pairing, Oconee County came away with a 55-45 win last Dec. 27.

After a strong finish to last year’s season, the East Jackson Eagles wrestling team looks to build on last year for a successful 2008-09 showing.

East Jackson wrapped up its inaugural season with a 19th place finish out of 55 teams in state competition, with two of the five qualifiers placing.

The Eagles lost three seniors from last year, but retained a strong core group for this year, as well as gaining several young wrestlers.

At the end of last season, East Jackson Lady Eagles coach Amy Larimer said she saw a bright future for the girls’ basketball program.

When the Lady Eagles hit the court this weekend for the Talon Tip-Off Classic at East Jackson, it will be the first step into a new season, and a chance to write another chapter in the East Jackson history books.

In their first season, East Jackson went 9-17, dropping in the first round of region playoffs after a loss to Dawson County. [ Full Story » ] 

After an inaugural season that saw them off on the right foot, the East Jackson Eagles’ boys basketball team is gearing up for their second season of play, which is set to start by hosting a pre-season tournament on Saturday.

Last year, the Eagles went 18-10 overall, and 7-4 in the region.

Coach Brian Turner says it’s great to begin this season without having to start from scratch like they did in 2007.

“With the transition of starting a new school over, the kids pick up things a little quicker and better than last season,” he said. “We still have a lot of inexperience at some positions but the learning curve should come much quicker than last year.”

Both East Jackson cross country teams performed well enough to reach the elite eight teams last weekend at state competition in Carrollton.

The girls finished seventh out of 35 schools, while the boys finished eighth of 35 schools.

Sherri Blalock finished third out of 82 runners with a national elite time of 19:55, setting a new school record for East Jackson. Blalock also made the All-State team.
