Kentucky team takes World Series title

Last week’s Dizzy Dean 11-year-old World Series title game, held at East Hall Park in Nicholson, was a blow-out of a victory for the team from Jeffersontown, Kentucky, as they recorded a 16-6 victory in four innings to become the World Series champs over the North Point Nationals from Alabama.

Jeffersontown struck early, scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning, while they held the Nationals scoreless in the bottom of the first, despite the Alabama team threatening with runners on the corners.

A solo home run added another run for Jeffersontown in the top of the second, but the Nationals began working their way back into the game in the bottom of the inning by scoring four runs. [Full Story »]

A trip to Mississippi yielded results for the two Commerce softball teams competing in the Dizzy Dean World Series last week.

Playing in Southaven, MS, the Commerce 14-under and 10-under teams each ended the series with top-10 finishes. [Full Story »]

The Commerce 14-under All Stars are not the only team from Commerce heading to Mississippi to compete in the Dizzy Dean softball National Tournament.

The Commerce 10-under team will also make the trip after the girls placed second in state competition. The 10-and-under girls will compete in the World Series starting July 22 in Southaven, MS. [Full Story »]

The 11-year-old Jeffersontown, Kentucky little league team took home top honors Wednesday from the Dizzy Dean World Series, held in Nicholson.

The Kentucky team defeated the North Port Nationals out of Alabama 16-6 to win in four innings, due to the 10 run rule.

The title game brought the World Series festivities, which began last Thursday with opening ceremonies at East Jackson Comprehensive High School, to a close.

Jackson County just misses title shot at World Series

Play got underway Friday at the Dizzy Dean 11-year-old World Series, being held at East Jackson Park in Nicholson.

Thirty-five teams took to the field in a round robin format, with eight teams winning pool play to advance to a double elimination tournament to play for the championship.

The Jackson County Force was the only local team to make the championship tournament. Other pool winners were the North Port Nationals from Alabama, North West from St. Petersburg, Florida, the Tallahassee Capitals from Florida, Jeffersontown, Kentucky, Fossil Park from Florida, Fulton, Mississippi and the Blast from Panama City Beach, Florida. World Series opening set for Thursday

After months of preparation, the big moment for the Jackson County Parks and Rec department is upon us.

Opening ceremonies for the Dizzy Dean 11-Year-Old Baseball World Series are slated to get underway at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Stadium at East Jackson Comprehensive High School.

As of Monday morning, 34 teams were slated to take part from six states. Three area teams, the Jackson County Force, the Jackson County Bullets and the Jefferson Dragons will be taking part. [Full Story »] 

Jefferson 13U All- Stars win state title

The Jefferson 13-year-old All Stars won the Dizzy Dean State Baseball Tournament in convincing fashion Tuesday night with a 17-2 demolition of Druid Hills. The game was called after 5 innings due to the 10 run mercy rule much to the delight of a packed house at the Jefferson Recreation Complex. This was Jefferson’s first State Baseball Title since 2002.

The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department hosted the 5 day Tournament that featured 15 teams from all six Dizzy Dean districts.

Recreation Dept. Director Colt Green and Athletic Director Jeremy Smith were both very pleased with the attendance and support of all the parents from across the state. [Full Story »] 

World Series To Open July 16

In just under 10 days the opening ceremonies will kick off the 11-year-old Dizzy Dean World Series, hosted by the Jackson County Park and Recreation Department.

The July 16 opening ceremonies will be held at East Jackson Comprehensive High School at 6:30 p.m. and will close with a fireworks display.
While the ceremony will wrap up around 9:00 p.m. at the football stadium, tournament play begins Friday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. with a format established by Dizzy Dean Baseball and brackets determined through a blind draw on Thursday.

County prepares for World Series action

With about two weeks left, everything is now in full swing to prepare for the upcoming 11-year-old Dizzy Dean World Series, which will be hosted by Jackson County Parks and Recreation July 17-21.

Officials estimate between 30-40 teams from around the southeast will be taking part in the event. Already confirmed are teams from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Virginia.

Park and rec baseball tourneys continue

Several Jackson County park and rec baseball teams traveled around the area last weekend to take part in several Dizzy Dean district tournaments.

The Jackson County Diamondbacks came out on top of the 7-year-old division tournament over the weekend. The Diamondbacks started by defeating Dawson County, and then moved on to defeat another Jackson County team.

It was yet another Jackson County Park and Rec team that stood between the Diamondbacks and victory, but in the end, the Diamondbacks came away with the top spot on the weekend. [Full Story »]
