WBHS cross country athletes earn All-Region status

A season which ended at the Class AAAA state meet has resulted in individual recognition for members of the Winder-Barrow High School cross country program.

Amanda Cope was named first team All-Region 8-AAAA along with teammate Rebecca Gregory and Kalya Estes. Marie Lyle was named second team All-Region with Nicole Webb earning third team honors.

JCCHS Cross Country girls perform well at state

The Jackson County Panthers girls’ cross country team placed 17th in AAA classification in state competition in Carrollton over the weekend.

Brittany Aikens finished 15th out of 202 runners with a time of 20:26; Rachel Pasko finished 46th with a 21:33; Lexie Miller finished 93rd with a personal best time of 22:53. Other girls competing included Lauren Turner with a 24:00; Katie Maiolo with a 26:15; and Susan Diesch with a 27:45. [ Full Story » ]

It was a successful trip to state competition for the Jefferson Dragons girls’ cross country team Saturday, as they placed sixth in Region AA competition out of a field of 29 teams.

Alison Missler placed 26th out of 182 runners taking part with a time of 21:55; Jessica Runkle finished 33rd with a time of 22:14; Kathy Buffington finished 36th with a time of 22:23; Lauren Phillips placed 47th with a time of 22:50; Mariah Porras finished 54th with a time of 23:20; Laura Price placed 70th with a time of 24:06; and Caitlin Meads finished 78th with a time of 24:33. Banks County’s cross-country team has a lot of reasons to be proud.

Not only did the boys make it to the state race in Carrollton, but also four Banks runners were named to the All Region team.
After running in the region race at Riverside, where the boys placed third in the region. The Diaz bothers Jorge and Ivan broke a school record. Then the boy’s team began preparing for the state race.

Coach Kelly McDuffie said that the preparation was more of a mental thing and consisted of switching the boys to practice in the morning instead of the afternoon. [ Full Story » ] 

Cross Country Eagles place in Elite Eight at State

Both East Jackson cross country teams performed well enough to reach the elite eight teams last weekend at state competition in Carrollton.

The girls finished seventh out of 35 schools, while the boys finished eighth of 35 schools.

Sherri Blalock finished third out of 82 runners with a national elite time of 19:55, setting a new school record for East Jackson. Blalock also made the All-State team.

The Jackson County Panthers girls’ cross country team is preparing for competition at the state meet in Carrollton this weekend after finishing second in the 8-AAA region meet at Oconee County Thursday.

Individually, Brittany Aikens finished second overall with a time of 20:31; Rachel Pasko finished fourth with a 22:07; Lexie Miller placed seventh with a 23.17; Lauren Turner finished 14th with a 23:43; and Katie Maiolo placed 33rd with a 26:06. he Jefferson Dragons girls’ cross country team will be heading for state competition Saturday in Carrollton after placing second in the region meet at Riverside Military Academy last weekend.

The girls finished four points behind North Oconee, while edging Dawson County by a point.

Jessica Runkel finished fourth overall with a personal best time of 21:02, while Alison Missler also recorded a personal best time of 21:40 in finishing sixth. [ Full Story » ] 

Eagles Take 2nd, 4th At Region Meet

The East Jackson Eagles cross country team had strong performances in region competition at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville this past weekend, and now prepare for a trip to the state meet in Carrollton this weekend.

The boys’ team came away with a second place finish, following only North Oconee, while the girls placed fourth behind North Oconee, Jefferson and Dawson County. [ Full Story » ]

BCHS boys cross country heading to state

Expectations were high as the Banks County cross country team traveled to Riverside last Saturday.

In the region race, the cross country runners had to give it their all because according to coach Kelly McDuffie, it is all or nothing in cross country.

The Leopards’ runners were rewarded for this season’s hard work. The girls finished seventh in the 8-AA region, which is one of the toughest regions in the state, and Amy Sims finished just shy of a new school record.

The boys made it to state, finishing third in the region. The brother duo of Jorge Diaz, placing second, and Ivan Diaz, placing eighth, broke into the top ten and set a school record.

The boys will go this Saturday to compete in the state race at Carrollton. The race starts at 11:30 a.m.
