After a week off that spared the Commerce Tigers from playing in the mud, coach Steve Savage’s squad has a devil of a task before it this Friday.

Commerce will host perennial Class A power Lincoln County Friday night in the Tigers’ final non-region game of the season.

The Tigers are 1-2 in the season and are looking to improve on last year’s .500 record, but Lincoln is likely one of the toughest — if not the toughest — teams on the 2009 schedule. [Full Story »] 

The Commerce Tigers made a second-place showing for the start of the cross-country season at Rabun Gap last Thursday.

Commerce boys’ team finished second by a score of 28-29 against Rabun Gap while the Lady Tigers did not have enough runners competing to qualify for a team score. according to coach Mark Hale.

The girls who competed finished within seconds of each other as Kacee Cooper led the Lady Tigers with a 37:42 finish. [Full Story »] 

Commerce Lady Tigers advanced to 2-2 in region play last week as the fell to Prince Avenue on Tuesday, but picked up a win on Thursday over Athens Christian.

The Lady Tigers are 5-8 overall and were scheduled to play on Tuesday at Hebron.

That game was rained out.

Wednesday's games has been canceled, Commerce was scheduled to host Banks County.

Commerce does have a rain date scheduled for Thursday to make up games.

Commerce put one in the win column last Friday night as the Tigers rolled over Morgan County 34-14.

This week Steve Savage’s Tigers will take on another AAA school as Commerce heads to Franklin County Friday for a 7:30 match with the Lions.

Franklin County is 0-2 after falling to Gainesville last Friday night and Commerce is 1-1 and looking for a second win. [Full Story »] 

Commerce Lady Tigers had an up and down start in region play. They started region competition Sept. 1, hosting Towns County for a 10-2 win. The Lady Tigers then headed to Social Circle on Thursday where they were disappointed by a 5-2 loss.

This week, Commerce returned from the Labor Day break to host Prince Avenue on Tuesday. Scores from Tuesday’s game were unavailable at press time.

Tomorrow, (Thursday) the Lady Tigers are back on the road at Athens Christian, who they beat earlier. Athens Christian is 0-1 in the region and 1-5 overall. Commerce is 3-5 overall and 1-1 in region play.

Coach Pam Canup said that the ladies will have to play well and eliminate mistakes since both teams have improved since the first meeting. [Full Story »] 

It’s not that the Jefferson game didn’t count, but football season is just getting started for the Commerce Tigers, who have three more games before getting into region play and a shot at the state playoffs.

This Friday night, Commerce hosts Morgan County in the home opener at 8:00 at Tiger Field.

Last year, the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 33-23. However, the AAA school has a history of being big and tough, and coach Steve Savage expects nothing different this year. [Full Story »] 

The Lady Tigers softball team had a rough go of it last week, taking two on the chin from Hart County and Jefferson.

This week, Commerce hosted Towns County on Tuesday to start the region set of games. Scores from Tuesday’s game were unavailable at press time.

Thursday, Sept. 3, the e Lady Tigers will continue their hunt for region wins as they head to Social Circle to take on the Lady Redskins at 5:45 p.m.
