Last Friday was a great night for the Commerce Lady Tigers, who recorded a 54-15 win over Tallulah Falls in a region match-up.

Picking up the first region win, and head coach Eddie McCurley’s 400th career win, provided the Commerce fans who made the trip north an exciting game.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead, going up 18-2 at the end of the first quarter. By the half, the lead was 32-8.

In the third quarter, Commerce put up an additional 18 points to four for Tallulah Falls, making the score 50-12. [ Full Story » ] 

The Tiger grapplers are a few days away from starting their season.

Commerce will be one of a number of schools at the Panther Invitational at Jackson County High School this Friday and Saturday. The matches start at 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

Commerce’s basketball teams will open their season Saturday.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers face Apalachee on the road; the first game starts at 6 p.m. with the Lady Tigers taking on the Lady Wildcats, with the boys’ game to follow. [ Full Story » ] 

Commerce’s wrestling team has reason for optimism.

The Tigers have a number of returning starters and state tournament placers and qualifiers after last season’s fourth-place finish at the state tournament and a 21-3 dual record.

Coach Kendall Love said the team should be competitive as the grapplers get into their weight classes. [ Full Story » ] 

“We played good enough to win,” said Tiger coach Steve Savage. “Sometimes good enough to win is good enough.”

Friday night, Commerce secured a .500 regular season after a 22-12 victory over Prince Avenue Christian.
