As exciting as last Friday’s win against Heritage was, Winder-Barrow High School football coach Ben Corley knows it is time to move forward and focus in on the next challenge.

That challenge comes in the way of Habersham Central who will roll into W. Clair Harris Stadium Friday for a 7:30 p.m. Region 8-AAAA contest. The game will be vital for both teams as each looks to shore up their place in the region standings. [Full Story »] 

Coach Ben Corley, his coaching staff and players have remained true to a simple but effective game plan: keep working and good things will eventually happen.

The game plan paid off last Friday as the the Winder-Barrow High School football team posted its first victory of 2009 with a 7-0 home win against Heritage. The Bulldoggs cut down on the turnovers which had plagued them in recent weeks and also had a solid defensive performance allowing just 150 yards of offense by the Patriots.

Through two games this season, the Winder-Barrow High School football team has shown improvement in several areas.

On the flip side, there are areas where improvement still needs to be made.

Ben Corley knows how much work his players have put into preparing for the 2009 season.

Now the second-year head coach hopes that work will pay off when the season begins Friday as Madison County pays W. Clair Harris Stadium a visit for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

“Our kids are excited about getting going,” Corley said. “We have worked hard for a long time. We are excited to see where we are.” [Full Story »] 

While other members of Region 8-AAAA are preparing for their 2009 debut this week, for the Winder-Barrow High School football team, it is just another week of preseason work.

Since the Bulldoggs have their open date this Friday, this is not game week. That will not occur until WBHS reaches Monday and they begin final preparations for their season and Region 8-AAAA opener against Madison County in a game to be played at W. Clair Harris Stadium. [Full Story »] 

Football, and little else, was on the minds of the Winder-Barrow High School players and coaches this past weekend.

Coach Ben Corley and his coaching staff held a weekend camp at WBHS to give the players the opportunity to concentrate soley on the gridiron. The end result was mission accomplished for the Bulldoggs. [Full Story »]
