Winder-Barrow High School and Apalachee High School were playing for pride Friday night, but both teams displayed plenty of it.
In the end, the Bulldoggs rallied for a 27-20 victory to win the Battle of Barrow trophy for the first time since 2007. A 60-yard kickoff return by CeCe Green proved to be the winning points for WBHS. That score came after host AHS had put together an eight-play, 89-yard drive to take a 20-19 lead with 2:30 left. The Wildcats could not answer in the final two minutes and the Bulldoggs notched their first Region 8-AAAAA victory of the season while finishing 2-8 overall. AHS finishes the season 0-10 overall and 0-8 in region play.
“Words can’t describe this,” said WBHS quarterback Hunter Cooper. “It feels great to get the trophy.”
