Eagles prepare for Aug. 28 opener

With the first full week of practice behind them, and just over two weeks ahead to the first game of the 2009 football season, the East Jackson Eagles are continuing to put their emphasis on an important aspect of their game.

“We’re just going to work on us,” said head coach Frank Caputo. “Our biggest opponent, week in and week out, is ourselves with some of the mistakes we’ve made.”

Caputo said despite the obvious distractions that come with school starting last week, his players have maintained their focus on the practice field. [Full Story »]

Harper Takes 10th At State Meet

East Jackson Comprehensive High School’s lone participant in the girls’ state track meet in Albany recorded a tenth-place finish and set a new
personal best height.

Jessie Harper cleared 4’10” in the high jump, her best jump on record. It was good enough for a tenth-place finish in in an event won by Westminster.

Coach Steve Collins said the trip was a “good first experience” for Harper, who had placed second in the high jump in the region finals at East Jackson earlier in the month to qualify for state.

Spring football practice wrapped up last week for the East Jackson Eagles as the program prepares to enter its third season.

The Eagles are coming off of a 2008 run that showed flashes of promise. The Eagles went 3-7 overall, and 3-6 in their first season of region play in 8-AA, recording wins over Oglethorpe County, Rabun County and Dawson County, as well coming close in games against West Hall and North Oconee. Lady Eagles place sixth in region

After delays due to rain, the East Jackson girls’ track team was finally able to wrap up their region meet last week.

The Lady Eagles finished sixth at region with 47 points. They trailed region champs North Oconee, Jefferson, Rabun County, Oglethorpe and Dawson County.

Jessie Harper was the only team member to qualify for state competition when she finished second in the high jump.

The East Jackson boys’ track season came to a close at the Georgia Olympics at Jefferson this past weekend, with two Eagles placing, while two others finished in the top 10.

Brandon Banks placed second in the state in the 1600-meters with a time of 4:39.410.

Banks won the region championship in the event last month. [Full Story »]

Spring football practice got underway last week for the Eagles of East Jackson, as the EJCHS football program prepares to enter its junior season.

EJCHS basketball camp coming up in June

The Future Eagles basketball camp will be held beginning Monday, June 1, and will run through Thursday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The cost is $100 and $75 for each additional sibling.

Each camper will receive a free t-shirt and lunch will also be provided. [Full Story »]

Loss To Fannin Ends Eagles’ Season

The East Jackson Eagles saw their season come to a close on Friday as they were swept in a doubleheader in round one of the Region 8-AA playoffs by Fannin County.

Fannin edged the Eagles 4-3 in the first game, then buried them 12-2 in the second.

In game one, Fannin County scored three unearned runs in the first, then added another in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. [Full Story »]

Four members of the East Jackson boys’ team qualified for the state meet May 7-9 in Jefferson.

Eagles Perform Strong At Oglethorpe

With the boys’ region meet looming on the horizon this week and the girls’ region set for the following week, the East Jackson Eagles track and field teams continue to prepare for what they hope will be a good showing.

East Jackson’s boys took top honors over Jackson County and Franklin County in a meet at Jackson County on Thursday. The Eagles scored 67 points to Jackson County’s 55 and Franklin’s 39.

The girls, meanwhile, found themselves trailing at the Jackson County meet, scoring 44 points to winner Franklin’s 55 and Jackson County’s 50. [Full Story »]
