The Banks County Leopards track team sent Makayla Hewell to state to compete in the women's 3200 meter run and the women's 1600 meter run. It is Hewell's first year running track and she set two new school records in the 1600 and 3200 events.
Hewell placed seventh in the state 3200 meter run and 13th in the 1600 meter run. Makayla has reaped the benefits of consistent training since last fall. She finished eighth at the region cross country championship in October and has catapulted to seventh in the state women's 3200 meter run.
"Hewell and her training mates have developed a sense of why they train the way we do and the confidence to race well has emerged as a result,” head coach John McCartney said. “With proper training this summer. Makayla should continue to improve and bring more glory to herself, her team, her school, and the Banks County community. I hope God blesses and watches over her as she continues her athletic career."
