Following a season that included a region championship and an appearance in the Elite 8, the Lady Tiger basketball team is back on the court this summer.
Commerce is hosting its annual Lady Tigers Skills Camp for upcoming second through eighth graders this week. This year, the camp saw an attendance increase to 30 aspiring Lady Tigers (up from 20).
The camp included fundamental lessons, games, and competitions conducted by head varsity coach Brad Puckett and his staff of head JV coach Jodi Hutto, and head middle school coach CJ Wilkes, along with former and current Lady Tigers.
This year’s camp also featured intense sessions conducted by former Georgia Southern standout guard Mimi DuBose Beck. At the end of the week, each camper received a t-shirt and basketball for attending the camp.
“It is an exciting time to be a Lady Tiger basketball player,” said Puckett.
The varsity team is scheduled for a slate of summer games, tournaments and camps following the conclusion of the youth camp on Thursday.
This Friday, Commerce High School will send 19 athletes to compete in the Class A State Sectionals in Mitchell County. And while the Tigers view their entire team as a family, that sentiment takes on a deeper meaning for two of Commerce’s athletes.
