Smith Tops Sinack In Dragway Reprise

Atlanta Dragway hosted the fourth Saturday Insanity event over the weekend, with racing in the Open Comp, 6.50 and 7.50 index classes.

Bishop’s David Smith and Stan Sinack of Lilburn gave the crowd déjà-vu, running head-to-head in the 6.50 Index finals for a second time. Sinack won their last pairing back on June 19. Smith gained a great advantage with a .003 reaction time while Sinack rushed after with a .029 green light. [Full Story »] 

Hancock just misses at Dragway

After a week’s delay due to wet weather, the Atlanta Dragway picked up where it left off with the National Dragster Challenge Saturday, with competitors from all over coming out to vie for top honors.

Joe Haddon of Oxford battled his way to the Super Pro finals, lining up against hometown hero Jeremy Hancock of Commerce, who took a bye run to the finals. Haddon was dialed only slightly slower with a 4.86 prediction, next to Hancock’s 4.81 dial-in.

Hancock launched a tad early for a -.004 red light, instantly handing victory to Haddon, who left the line with a .023 green light. Haddon took a 4.85 second joy ride at 142.18 mph, while Hancock let off for a 9.43 second run at 43.55 mph.

Grill Dominates For Win At GMP

Augie Grill beat the rain, the competitors and the heat to pick up his second victory of the season at Gresham Motorsports Park in Saturday night's U.S. Auto Sales 100.

Grill held off a hard charging T.J. Reaid on the final restart with two laps to go to pick up the win, with Bubba Pollard third, Ryan Blaney fourth and Jeff Fultz rounding out the top five. [Full Story »] 

Strong Field Expected Saturday At GMP

A full field of top Super Late Model cars and drivers will be on hand this Saturday when the U.S. Auto Sales 100 CRA Super Series takes the green flag at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson.

Heading the list of pre-entries for the event will be Augie Grill and Jimmy Garmon. Grill, a Hayden, AL, native, won the season-opening CRA event at GMP March 13 while Garmon, of nearby Hoschton, was the most recent Super Late Model division winner on the half-mile oval June 19. [Full Story »] 

Clock Ticking Until World Crown

Just 129 days remain before the 27th annual World Crown 300 classic at Gresham Motorsports Park takes the green flag on Nov. 12-14.

However you tick it down, Georgia’s biggest season-ending stock car race is just around the corner.

This year’s stock car racing spectacular, which will conclude with the 300-Lap Super Late Model event, will be held Sunday, Nov. 14. Also added to this year’s line-up is a 125-Lap Pro Late Model clash on Saturday, Nov. 13. [Full Story »] 

Night Of Fire Lights Up Dragway

It was a hot night and a fast show at the Night of Fire at the Atlanta Dragway Saturday night.

In the Super Pro final, Tommy Motes of Loganville faced Mark Hancock of Commerce. Hancock got the handicap tree with a 5.11 dial-in against Motes’s 4.96 dial. Hancock’s .034 reaction time wasn’t good enough for Motes’s .025 launch, however. Hancock lost the double breakout with a 5.09 elapsed time at 134.60, while Motes made the better run in 4.95 seconds at 138.16 mph for the win. [Full Story »]

Despite smothering heat, the drivers managed to stay cool at the Atlanta Dragway Saturday, with two drivers going to victory lane for the second time in as many weeks.

Two winners from last weekend’s NHRA Unleashed event, Stan Sinack and Howard Warren, went back-to-back in the win column on the quarter-mile. [Full Story »] 

Garmon Picks Up Big Win At Gresham

Hoschton’s Jimmy Garmon couldn’t remember the last time he won a race. It’s a sure bet he won’t ever forget Saturday’s Super Late Model feature at Gresham Motorsports Park.

“I want to say it was 2003, maybe 2004 the last time I won a race,” said a jubilant Garmon after holding off Senoia’s Bubba Pollard to win the 100-lap event. “It was here at Gresham when the track was still Peach State Speedway. They had two 40-lap features one night and I won one of them. This is pretty special.” [Full Story »]

Atlanta Dragway played host to the inaugural NHRA Unleashed event, a televised four-event series for 2010 featuring 10 classes of racing for all makes of automobiles this past weekend.

It was an all Jackson County showdown in the 13.00 Index class, as Jacob Rutledge of Hoschton faced off against Jeff Wagner of Braselton. [Full Story »]

Augie Grill not only won the 125-lap season-opening Super Late Model main event at Gresham Motorsports Park on March 13, but the Hayden, AL, driver also set a new track record in qualifying.
