After a rough start to the week with a loss to Jackson County, the East Jackson baseball Eagles rebounded by picking up a big region win over the Jefferson Dragons.

The Eagles return to action today (Wednesday) as they host Oglethorpe County at 5:55.

Commerce Travels To East Jackson March 17

Commerce opened its boys’ track and field season last Thursday in a three-team meet in Jefferson with the Dragons and Banks County.

The Tigers finished second, scoring 51 points to Jefferson’s 87, while Banks County finished a distant third with 13 points. [Full Story »]

The Commerce Tigers got their season off to a strong start, picking up their first win against the Jefferson Dragons in recent memory.

The Tigers return home Friday for their region opener, hosting Riverside Military Academy.

The Eagles come to Commerce on an early season slide, having dropped games to Flowery Branch and Dawson County last week. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Mat Tigers Grab 3rd At State

The Commerce mat Tigers came home as the third-place finisher in the Georgia Class A State Tournament over the weekend with one state championship and two runners-up among seven wrestlers who placed.

Commerce was bested only by state champ Bremen and runner-up Gordon Lee in the final tally.

Chance McClure came home as the state champion in the 189 lb. category. [Full Story »]

It was a good week for the Commerce Lady Tigers who beat Oglethorpe, Social Circle and Lakeview Academy, putting together their best winning streak of the season and locking up the number two seed in 8-A North.

Commerce was scheduled to travel to Towns County on Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time.

The Lady Tigers will try to end the season on a winning note Friday night when they host Tallulah Falls, which is winless in region play. [Full Story »]

Despite losses to North Oconee and Hart County, the East Jackson Lady Eagles picked up their first ever win over Jackson County last week.

The Lady Eagles begin play this week 2-4 in region play and 5-13 overall. They will host Elbert County on Friday.

The Lady Blue Devils are 5-0 in region play and 9-8 overall. One of those wins was a 69-41 decision over East Jackson on Jan. 4.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The 2011 portion of the East Jackson Eagles’ basketball season gets under way this week. On Friday, East Jackson will host Banks County in the second meeting of the two teams this season.

The Eagles came away with a 69-60 victory on Dec. 3.

The Leopards enter play this week looking to rebound from a 55-48 loss on Dec. 18. They are 3-8 overall so far in the season and 1-0 in region play.

East Jackson hopes to extend its three-game winning streak over the Leopards, which dates back to last January while rebounding after winning one and losing two in tournament play over the holidays.

The East Jackson Eagles got their season started last week in the Titan Turkey Classic tournament at North Oconee Nov. 22-23.

They lost to Lanier in the opener but came back to win against North Oconee the next day.

Up next for East Jackson is a trip to Homer Friday to face Banks County.

The Leopards enter the week fresh off of a 1-1 start in the Rabun County Tip-Off tournament, falling to Hiawassee Dam High School 64-62 before rebounding with a victory over Highlands School 52-43.

In seven previous meetings, the Eagles have defeated the Leopards six times. Their last meeting, on Feb. 12, resulted in an East Jackson victory, 65-54.

NASCAR To Return To Gresham In 2011

Gresham Motorsports Park backed up its promise to make the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East a regular visitor to the half-mile Jefferson oval, announcing that the division will stage one of the track’s headline events in 2011.

The Saturday, June 11, race will see the NASCAR K&N cars throw down in a 150-lap main event. The K&N Series marked NASCAR’s return to GMP with an exciting, fender banging battle on Aug. 28 this year with Ty Dillon emerging as the victor in his Richard Childress Racing Chevy.

The GMP Outlaw Late Models, Mini Stocks and Trucks – all staples on the 2011 Gresham Motorsports Park racing calendar – will also be featured in the June 11 NASCAR K&N race fest. [Full Story »]
