JCCHS travels to Stephens County Thurs.

After some rough outings last week that saw losses to Oconee County and Hart County, the Panthers of Jackson County are hoping for a rebound this week as they travel to Stephens County on Thursday.

A win will be tall order for the Panthers. The Indians enter play undefeated in the region, and with a 12-2 overall record. In the last meeting of the two teams, on March 30, Stephens County came away with a 16-0 win.

Panthers nab first region win of 2009

The Jackson County Panthers picked up their first region win of the season last week, as they recorded a victory over Franklin County.

Next up for Jackson County is a trip to Oconee County to face the Warriors in Watkinsville today (Wednesday). Oconee County entered play this week 10-3 overall, and 3-1 in the region.

JCCHS takes second in recent meets

Mark it down as another strong showing for the Jackson County track teams, as both boys and girls teams took second place at East Jackson last Tuesday.

The girls garnered 86.5 points, finishing just behind first place Rabun County, who had 88.5 points.

Among the winners last week were Krishawnda Ledford, who placed first in the long jump, second in the 100-meters and second in the 200-meters. Brittany Aikens placed first in the 3200-meters. Rachel Pasko placed first in the 1600-meters and second in the 800-meters. [Full Story »]

It’s been a rough week for the Panthers of Jackson County, as they recorded two losses between rainouts.

Jackson County next travels to Morgan County in a rescheduled game on Friday.

The Jackson County Panthers were hoping to pick up where they had left off on March 12, with a victory over Athens Christian.

But a rematch Monday night didn’t go the way they had hoped, as the Eagles handed them their fourth loss of the year.

Jackson Co. to face EJCHS

Last week was a tough one for the Jackson County boys’ golf team, as they faced three losses in a row.

The week started with a trip to Pine Isle to face Buford. In the end, it was Buford coming away with a 179-204 victory. Ben Waldrip led the Panthers by shooting a 49. Russell Jenkins shot a 51, Jonathan Jackson shot a 52, Rodney Price shot a 52, Jared Scott shot a 58 and Alex Brandao shot a 62.

Next up was a pairing against Stephens County at The Pines that saw Stephens come away with a 178-205 victory.

Price led JCCHS by shooting a 46. Scott shot a 49, Justin Lenz shot a 53, Jenkins shot a 57, Waldrip shot a 57 and Jackson shot a 58.
The Panthers wrapped up their week by facing off against Apalachee. Apalachee came away with a 171-191 win.

Price led Jackson County by shooting a 40, the lowest score of the year for the team. Waldrip shot a 50, Scott shot a 50, Jenkins shot a 51, Jackson shot a 55 and Lenz shot a 57.

“The men still have a great attitude and are working hard,” said coach Warren Standridge. “We have got to find a way to be more consistent.”

Jackson County was slated to face East Hall at Chicopee Woods on Monday, and Winder at Traditions on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.

Next up for the Panthers is a match against Hart County and East Jackson on Thursday. The match is slated to get underway at 4 p.m.

Last week was a rough one for the Jackson County Panthers tennis team, as the boys’ teams lost 5-0 to both Franklin County and Stephens County.

“We played much better against Stephens and I'm looking forward to our final three matches,” said coach Tammi Gowen.

Results from the girls’ matches were not available at press time.

The Panthers were scheduled to face Oconee County on Tuesday night. Results were unavailable at press time.

Jackson County will next travel to Elbert County on Thursday.

JCCHS wins Panther Invitational

After a slow start, the Jackson County soccer teams ended the week strong with wins in the Panther Invitational on Saturday.

The week started with a home stand last Tuesday against Eastside. For the girls, the game ended with a 7-0 loss.

The score was a little better for the boys’ team, who lost 5-2 to the 6-2 Eagles. [Full Story »] 

Jackson County drops games to Hart County

Coming off a strong showing against Eastside, the Jackson County Panthers tennis teams were hoping to keep their momentum going as they traveled to Hart County last week to face the Bulldogs.

They saw that momentum stalled, however, as both the boys and girls teams came up empty, losing 5-0 to Hart County.

“Hart County just has a much more experienced team,” said girls’ coach Natalie Peterson, who pointed out that 13 of her 15 girls are new to the sport. [Full Story »] 

JCCHS now 3-3 with Athens Christian win

The Jackson County Panthers added another win to their total last week, defeating Athens Christian after losing earlier in the week to Hebron Christian, evening their overall record at 3-3 for the season.

The Panthers have the next week off. They’ll return to the mound on Monday, March 23, when they play host to Athens Christian.
