Panthers take fifth at Redskin Rumble

Mark another strong showing for the Mat Panthers of Jackson County, as they placed fifth at the Redskin Rumble at Social Circle over the weekend, finishing only four points out of fourth place.

Among those placing at the event included first place finishers Kevin Spicer and Ryan Howe, while Charles Smothers placed second and Jamari Davis and Zach Moore both placed third in their weight classes.

It was an up and down week for the Panthers of Jackson County as they dropped two region games, but snapped a losing streak with a decisive victory over Banks County.

Up next is a trip to Morgan County for more region play when they’ll face the Bulldogs in Madison.

Morgan County entered play on Tuesday with a 2-4 region record and 5-9 overall. [Full Story »] 

Lady Panthers break into the region win column

It was an up and down week for the Lady Panthers of Jackson County, as they recorded their first region win of the season, but dropped two other games on the week.

Jackson County will look to start a drive to end their region schedule on an upturn this week, as they travel to Morgan County on Friday to face the Lady Bulldogs in Madison.

Morgan County entered play on Tuesday with a 2-5 region record, and 6-7 overall. The Lady Bulldogs were victorious in their most recent meeting with Jackson County, winning 43-26 back in December. [Full Story »] 

JCCHS finishes in the top eight at state

It was a solid showing for the Mat Panthers of Jackson County over the weekend, as they placed in the top eight at the state Dual Tournament in Macon, with the team going 2-2 on the weekend.

The meet started out on a high note, as Jackson County took the win over Westover 46-21 to open up the meet. The second round proved to be a little more difficult, however, as the Panthers fell to Lafayette 51-17.

“We had a couple of close matches against Lafayette,” said coach Jason Powers. “For state seeding purposes, it was a great match for us.” [Full Story »] 

Panthers Travel To Eastside Friday

The Jackson County Panthers continue to try to break the slide they’ve been in since December 30. The hopes of breaking the run of bad luck didn’t come true last week, as the streak extended to five losses as the Panthers fell first to Stephens County, then to Franklin and Oconee Counties.

The next chance for the Panthers will come on Friday, as Jackson County travels to Covington to face the Eastside Eagles.

The Eagles have been the winners in the last two meetings of the two teams, first in December of 2004, and again in December of 2005. [Full Story »] 

Lady Panthers face Eastside Friday

It was a tough week for the Lady Panthers of Jackson County, as they dropped region games to Franklin County and Oconee County, dropping them to 0-6 in the region as they continue to search for their first region victory of the year.

That first win could come Friday night, as the Lady Panthers travel to Eastside to face the Lady Eagles in Covington.

The Lady Eagles entered play on Tuesday with a 2-4 region record, and an 8-8 overall record. Eastside has been the winner the last two times the two teams have met, in December of 2004 and again in December of 2005. [Full Story »]

Coming back from the New Year’s break, the Jackson County Panthers were hoping to continue to gain momentum off of a tournament-closing win over Hebron Christian Academy on Dec. 30.

It didn’t work out that way, as the Panthers dropped their second loss of the year to Johnson.

Up next is a home stand for the Panthers, as they play host to Oconee County Friday night. The Warriors come to The Pit with a 5-5 overall record and 1-0 in region play. [Full Story »] 

JCCHS second in area, heads for state

The Mat Panthers of Jackson County will be heading to Macon this weekend after earning a berth in the AAA State Duals Tournament.

Jackson County went 7-1 in the 8-AAA Area Duals over the weekend at Oconee County High School to finish second, sending the team to the state competition this Friday and Saturday at the Macon Centerplex.

“All year long I have been telling the team to keep their head up and keep working hard and it will pay off and it did in a big way this weekend,” said coach Jason Powers. “We had our two must win matches of the tournament on Friday night and we performed very well as a team.” [Full Story »] 

Lady Panthers move into region play

It was another solid week for the Lady Panthers of Jackson County, as they split their last two games with a win over Johnson and a loss to Stephens County

Next up for the Lady Panthers is a home stand against Oconee County in region action.

Going into action on Tuesday, neither team had recorded a region win so far in the season. The Lady Panthers have a statistical advantage over the Lady Warriors, having scored 382 points to Oconee’s 290, and having allowed only 303 points to their 408. [Full Story »] 

Mat Panthers place fourth at Classic

The Jackson County Mat Panthers traveled to Hart County over the weekend to take part in the Georgia-Carolina Classic, an event they had won in 2008 and in 2009.

They had a good showing this year, but came up short on getting a third win in a row. Instead, the team went 3-2 on the weekend, finishing in fourth place.

Jackson County secured wins over Franklin County 67-12, Hephzibah 42-26 and Stephens County 44-24. They lost to Oconee County 48-30 and to East Jackson 43-26.
