Dear Santa,

As we approach your busiest day of the year, I hope you may have time to read my “letter” and help deliver some sports-related gifts.

I know the miracle of technology allows for information to reach you at the North Pole faster these days so I’m sure you will have time to scan this, even though Christmas is just four days away.

Apalachee High School’s Rakim Peters was named first team All-Region for the 2010 football season.

Teammates Zay Henry, Sacorous Riley and Johnny Thompson were named to the second team for Region 8-AAAA while Wildcat Jermaine Smith was named honorable mention.

Winder-Barrow High School junior Austin Stewart was named second team All-Region while freshman kicker Colin Shannon was honorable mention All-Region.

The Army-Navy football game is must see for me each year.

You can keep the broken system that college football uses to determine a national champion. You can keep your setup where certain teams are denied a chance to play for a national title. You can take your millions upon millions of dollars that schools make off the backs of their football players and put it, well, you know where you can stick it.
Rivalries come in all shapes and forms. Yes, the Alabama-Auburn rivalry is heated and full of hate. The Georgia-Georgia Tech game is fun for me as I have friends on both sides of the issue and they really go after one another each fall when the game arrives. [Full Story »] 

The Winder-Barrow High School swimmers continued to break records and establish personal bests during Saturday’s competition hosted by Habersham Central.
“I cannot be more proud of these swimmers, every time they compete,” said coach Jennifer Blevins.

“They are swimming just as asked — faster. All I ever ask is that each swimmer works hard and improves and that is what each one is doing. If time does not improve, then I notice technique improving.” [Full Story »] 

A 28-point performance from senior Saboyce Shelton helped the Apalachee High School Lady Wildcats improve their record to 4-0 after a 74-55 road win against Monroe Area Tuesday night.

Shelton helped spark AHS early, scoring 15 points in the first quarter, as the Lady Wildcats are off to their best start in program history. Monroe Area hung around early as there were six lead changes in the first quarter, but Shelton scored her teamís final six points for a 19-11 advantage after the first eight minutes. [Full Story »]
