It was a good week for the Mat Panthers of Jackson County, as they picked up a dual meet victory as well as their first tournament place of the year at the Panther Invitational.

Last Tuesday, Jackson County split matches between Flowery Branch and Banks County.

The team started off the night by picking up a victory over Banks County and finished off the night by losing the match on tiebreaker criteria to Flowery Branch. [Full Story »] 

The East Jackson Mat Eagles got their first taste of competition in the new season last Tuesday, as they traveled to JCCHS to face Jackson County and North Hall.

Unfortunately, with several wrestlers having just wrapped up football playoffs, things didn’t go very well for East Jackson, as they fell 72-6 to Jackson County, then lost 72-12 to North Hall.

The Eagles now prepare for their first major competition of the year, the Panther Invitational at JCCHS this Friday and Saturday.

The event will see several area teams competing, including Jackson County, Jefferson, Commerce, Banks County, Madison County, Apalachee, Hart County, Riverside Military Academy and White County.

Wrestling begins Friday at 5 p.m.

The Lady Dragons of Jefferson wrapped up play in the Tabo’s Tip-Off tournament over the weekend.

Unfortunately, it didn’t go as they had hoped, as they dropped games to Central Gwinnett and Winder-Barrow.

The Lady Dragons will next travel to Phillips Arena today (Wednesday) to face North Hall. Tip-off is slated for 1:15 p.m. [Full Story »] 

Gresham Motorsports Park added some sizzle to its 2010 schedule last week with the announcement that the totally renovated facility would play host to a NASCAR Camping World Series East event next season.
